1) Will the Securitron MUNL electric strike work with my existing mortise lock, or do I need a specific brand?
One MUNL model works with most North American mortise locks. The exception worth knowing before you order: Sargent 7900 and 8200 mortise locks need the tab kit, model STK-1, for retrofit installs. It handles latchbolts up to 3/4 inch throw, and latch and deadlatch positions are field adjustable, which is how a single strike body covers that range of locks.
2) Do I have to cut the jamb to install a Securitron MUNL strike?
No cutting or altering of the jamb. The MUNL drops into the standard ANSI 4-7/8 inch strike cutout and installs fully concealed, so on a retrofit you are pulling the old strike and running wire, not doing metalwork on a fire door frame. That is the whole point of the design for occupied buildings where jamb modification would void the door assembly.
3) Can an electric strike release when the door is under preload from wind or stack pressure?
The MUNL is preload capable, and that is the specific problem it solves. Most strikes bind and refuse to release when a door is pushed against the frame by wind, stack pressure in a stairwell, or a closer holding tight. The MUNL uses a motor rather than a solenoid, which gives it the force to release with that load on the keeper. If you have a door that intermittently will not buzz open, preload is usually the reason.
4) What happens to the door if power fails on a Securitron MUNL strike?
Fail secure. Power drops, the keeper stays locked and the door stays secured from the outside. Free egress still comes from the mortise lock's inside lever, not from the strike, so the opening is code compliant for egress either way. If your access control scheme needs the door to unlock on power loss, the MUNL is not the part. It is not field reversible to fail safe, so look at a field selectable strike such as the Hager 2930 instead.
5) I have a cylindrical lockset, not a mortise lock. Is the MUNL still the right strike?
No. The MUNL is built around the mortise lock, and a cylindrical latch is a different keeper geometry. 6) Which electric strike holds up on an exterior door in a hurricane zone?

7) My aluminum storefront door has an Adams Rite latch. Will the MUNL fit that jamb?

8) My mortise lock has a 3/4 inch latchbolt. Will a standard electric strike take it?
