Trimco TRI-1014-2.630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What plate sizes does the Trimco 1014 pull plate come in?
Two standard plate sizes: 3-1/2 x 15 inches and 4 x 16 inches. Both are offered across all eight finishes, so you can match a 3-1/2 inch narrow stile door on one opening and a wider 4 inch plate elsewhere in the same finish. Trimco also makes the 1014 in custom plate sizes if neither standard footprint suits the door.
2) Will a 3-1/2 inch wide pull plate fit a narrow stile aluminum door?
The 3-1/2 x 15 inch version of the 1014 is the one to look at for tighter stiles, since the 4 x 16 inch plate needs more face width. Measure your stile before ordering: the plate has to sit flat on the stile without running into the glass stop or the lock edge. On wide stile or flush wood and hollow metal doors the 4 x 16 inch plate is the usual choice.
3) Should I order the 6 inch or the 8 inch center-to-center pull?
The 1014 is offered with either a 6 inch or an 8 inch CTC grip, and the 6 inch CTC version is the shorter-grip option. Pick 6 inch CTC where you want a compact hand hold or where the plate is the 3-1/2 x 15 inch size; 8 inch CTC gives a longer grip, which crews with gloves and high-traffic entrances tend to prefer. Both use the same 1 inch diameter half-round straight profile, so the look stays consistent if you mix them in one building.
4) I have a pull plate on a door with an exit device. Is the Trimco 1014 the right part?
Not necessarily. The 1014 is a standalone plate and grip for a push/pull opening. If the pull has to mount in place of the trim on an exit device, you want a plate made for that device instead, for example the Detex P/PN Series pull plate built for Detex Value Series exit devices. Match the pull plate to the device manufacturer rather than adding a generic plate to a rim device.
5) What looks like a substitute for the Trimco 1014 but is actually a push plate?
The Delaney 3-1/2 inch by 15 inch push plate (DLY-4905xx) and the Delaney 4 inch by 16 inch push plate (DLY-490xxx) carry the same plate footprints as the Trimco 1014 standard sizes but are flat push plates with no grip. The Trimco 1014 mates its plate with an 1199 Series 1 inch diameter half-round pull projecting 2 inches, so it serves the pull side of the opening. Order a push plate for the push side and the 1014 for the pull side.
6) What is a comparable heavy duty pull plate to the Trimco 1014 if a wider center-to-center grip is needed?
The Trimco 1014 Series pairs a 1001 Series plate with an 1199 Series grip in a 1 inch diameter half-round straight pull at either 6 inch or 8 inch center-to-center. If the opening calls for a wider grip spread, the Ives 8303 is a heavy duty pull plate offered with 8 inch or 10 inch center-to-center mounting, which extends past the Trimco 1014's 8 inch maximum.
7) I need a pull plate that through-bolts to the door. What are my options?
The Ives 8302 is a heavy duty pull plate specified with through bolt mounting, which is the usual choice when the grip has to resist heavy pull loads or the door is a hollow metal leaf. The Trimco 1014 Series is a .050 inch stainless steel, brass or bronze plate pencil beveled on all four sides with a 1 inch diameter half-round grip and a 2 inch projection, in 3-1/2 x 15 inch and 4 x 16 inch standard plate sizes.
8) What is the closest match to the Trimco 1014 in a 3-1/2 inch by 15 inch pull plate from another brand?
Delaney offers a 3-1/2 inch by 15 inch door pull plate (DLY-4900xx) in the same plate footprint as the smaller of the two Trimco 1014 standard sizes. The Trimco 1014 in that size is built as a 1001 Series plate with a 1 inch diameter half-round straight pull at 6 inch or 8 inch center-to-center and a 2 inch projection, in finishes from 605 bright brass through 630 satin stainless steel.
9) How far does the Trimco 1014 pull stick out from the door?
Projection is 2 inches off the face of the plate. That matters in a corridor or a tight vestibule where a door swings toward a wall or another leaf, and it also tells you the clear grip space behind the 1 inch diameter half-round pull.
10) What is the Trimco 1014 plate made of, and will it hold up in a high traffic entrance?
Plates are heavy duty .050 inch stainless steel, brass or bronze, pencil beveled on all four sides so there is no sharp edge at a hand-contact point. That gauge and the beveled edge are why it gets specified for commercial and industrial buildings, retail, hospitality, multifamily and government or military facilities. It is a commercial-rated item, not a residential-weight plate.
11) What finishes can I get to match the rest of the hardware in my building?
Eight finishes: 605 Bright Brass, 606 Satin Brass, 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 613E Dark Oxidized Satin Bronze, 622 Matte Black, 626 Satin Chrome, 629 Bright Stainless Steel and 630 Satin Stainless Steel. 630 is the usual match for commercial lever and exit device hardware. Custom finishes are also available from Trimco if you are matching something unusual across a fleet of openings.
12) What are the alternatives to the Trimco 1014 if I need a wider center-to-center pull or through bolt mounting?
For longer grip spacing, the Ives 8303 heavy duty pull plate is offered with 8 inch or 10 inch center-to-center mounting, which goes past what the 1014 covers at 6 and 8 inch CTC. If you need the pull through bolted to the door for abuse-prone openings, the Ives 8302 is the heavy duty through bolt version. On the decorative side, Emtek's Modern, Knoxville and lost wax cast bronze Petal push and pull plates are the option when the opening is a design feature rather than a service door.
13) What is a decorative alternative to the Trimco 1014 pull plate for a hospitality or residential entry?
Emtek offers push and pull plate sets in decorative patterns, including the Modern series, the Knoxville series and a lost wax cast bronze Petal series. The Trimco 1014 Series takes a different approach, with a plain heavy duty .050 inch stainless steel, brass or bronze plate pencil beveled on all four sides and an ADA compliant 1 inch diameter half-round straight pull, specified for commercial use in settings such as hospitality, government facilities and multifamily.
14) Which pull plate should I standardize on across a facility if I want one plate size on every door?
The Trimco 1014 Series gives two standard plate sizes, 3-1/2 x 15 inch and 4 x 16 inch, each in eight finishes from 605 bright brass to 630 satin stainless steel, with custom plate sizes and finishes available for odd openings. Delaney covers the same two footprints across separate pull and push plate part families, 3-1/2 x 15 inch and 4 x 16 inch, if push and pull sides are being purchased as distinct items.
15) Is the Trimco 1014 suitable for a healthcare facility?
Trimco lists the 1014 as Healthy Hardware, and the plates are specified in stainless steel, brass or bronze with pencil beveled edges on all four sides, which keeps the hand-contact surfaces cleanable and free of sharp edges. Combined with the ADA compliant 1 inch round grip, it is the profile facility procurement usually wants for patient corridors and public entries.
