Trimco TRI-1102S.626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Should I order the surface mount or the thru-bolt version of the Trimco 1102 pull?
Thru-bolt (1102T or 1102CT) is the one to use on any door that gets pulled hard, entrances, stairwells, back-of-house, because the fasteners pass through the door and take the load off the face material. Surface mount (1102S or 1102CS) fastens from the pull side only and suits interior doors and doors where you can't disturb the opposite face, like a door with a push plate you'd have to drill through. Trimco also lists a special back-to-back application for both versions if you want a matching pull on each face.
2) Is the Trimco 1102 pull ADA compliant for a public building entrance?
Yes. The 1102 cast pull is ADA compliant and BHMA certified, with 1-1/2 inch clearance behind the grip so a closed fist or a gloved hand gets through without a tight grasp. That clearance figure is the one an inspector looks at on an accessible opening. It's rated commercial heavy duty, which is what you want on government, healthcare, school, and multifamily entrances.
3) What is a straight equivalent to the Trimco 1102 cast pull if I need a heavy duty commercial pull with the same 1-1/2 inch hand clearance?
The Ives 8102HD heavy duty straight door pull uses a 3/4 inch round bar and gives the same 1-1/2 inch clearance the Trimco 1102 cast pull provides, so grip room behind the handle is unchanged. Both are heavy duty commercial pulls. The difference is form: the 1102 is a cast pull in bronze, brass or aluminum with a 5-1/2 inch center-to-center spacing, while the 8102HD is a round bar pull. If the drawing calls out clearance rather than a specific casting, the 8102HD lands on the same number.
4) Is there a through-bolted alternative to the Trimco 1102T cast pull in stainless steel?
The ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull handle at 7/8 inch diameter with through-bolt mounting, and the Ives 8103HD is a heavy duty straight pull, 1 inch round, also through bolted. The Trimco 1102 offers thru-bolt mounting as the T model and is cast from bronze, brass or aluminum rather than stainless. If the specification calls for stainless on the door face, the AB7200 covers the same mounting method in that material.
5) How far does the Trimco 1102 pull stick out from the door face?
Projection is 2-3/16 inches off the face, with 1-1/2 inches of hand clearance between the grip and the door. That projection matters in two places: a narrow vestibule or corridor where a swinging door has to clear a wall or an adjacent leaf, and a pair of doors where the pulls sit close to the meeting stile. Check the swing path before you commit on a tight opening.
6) What is the Trimco 1102 pull made of, and will it hold up outdoors?
Cast construction in bronze, brass, or aluminum depending on the finish you order, not tube stock bent to shape, so there is no welded joint to fatigue at the post. Bronze and brass finishes like 613 oil rubbed bronze and 613E dark oxidized satin bronze are the traditional choices for exterior and high-traffic entrance work; aluminum shows up in the 628 satin aluminum finish and is the lighter option. All of it is a heavy duty commercial casting.
7) What finishes does the Trimco 1102 cast pull come in, and can I match my existing lever and hinge finish?
Eight architectural finishes, all standard BHMA numbers so they cross-reference directly to your locksets and hinges: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, and 628 satin aluminum. Every one of those eight is available in both mounting styles and both center-to-center spacings, so a property manager standardizing a building can hold one finish across the whole door schedule.
8) What is the closest alternative to a Trimco 1102 thru-bolt pull from another brand?
For a heavy duty thru-bolted commercial pull, the Ives 8103HD is a straight pull with 1 inch round bar and through-bolt mounting, and the Ives 8102HD is a straight pull with 3/4 inch round bar carrying the same 1-1/2 inch clearance the 1102 does. Both are round bar rather than a casting. If you want the offset shape instead of a straight grip, the Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset pull with heavy duty mounting hardware and is ADA compliant, and the Ives 8169 is a C style offset in 1 inch diameter.
9) Can I mount a Trimco 1102 pull back to back with another pull on the opposite side of the door?
Trimco lists a special back-to-back application for all four variations, 1102S, 1102CS, 1102T, and 1102CT. On a full glass or a door where both faces get pulled, that's the way to spec it. If you want an off-center back-to-back set out of the box instead, the Deltana OHP620 is an offset handle pull supplied as a back-to-back set for 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 inch doors, which is a thinner door range than a typical 1-3/4 inch commercial leaf.
10) The Cal-Royal PUL-175 comes up when I search door pulls - is it a substitute for the Trimco 1102?
No. The Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2 inch height, stainless steel construction - it is built to surround a rim cylinder on a night latch application, not to serve as a general door pull. The Trimco 1102 is a 5-1/2 inch center-to-center cast pull for commercial doors with 2-3/16 inch projection. Ordering the PUL-175 in place of an 1102 puts a cylinder pull on an opening that has no cylinder to receive it.
11) Does the Trimco 1102 pull have a handing, or is it the same part for a left and right hand door?
No handing on the 1102. It's a symmetrical straight grip on two posts at equal centers, so the same part goes on a left hand or right hand door and on either face. What you do have to specify when ordering is the center-to-center (5-1/2 or 5-1/4 inch), the mounting (S surface or T thru-bolt), and the finish. Some decorative pulls do require handing, the Emtek Art Nouveau is ordered by hand, but this one doesn't.
12) Is there a simpler surface mounted commercial pull than the Trimco 1102S?
The ABH AB3310 is an offset flat end door pull handle in commercial grade surface mount, and the ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end pull handle at 1.00 inch diameter. Both are bar-style pulls rather than castings. The Trimco 1102S is the surface mounted version of the cast 1102, available in 5-1/4 inch and 5-1/2 inch center-to-center. Where the job wants a plain bar in a surface application rather than a cast profile, the AB3300 straight or AB3310 offset covers it.
13) If I am standardizing pulls across a facility, does the Trimco 1102 or an Ives heavy duty pull give more consistent coverage?
Both hold at heavy duty. The Trimco 1102 comes in eight architectural finishes including 605 bright brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 622 matte black and 626 satin chrome, in surface and thru-bolt mounting and two center-to-center spacings, cast in bronze, brass or aluminum. The Ives heavy duty range spreads across profiles instead: the 8102HD straight with 3/4 inch round bar, the 8103HD 1 inch round through bolted, the 8145EZHD 45 degree offset and the 8169 C style offset. Standardizing on the 1102 holds one profile across many finishes; standardizing on Ives holds one bar style across several door conditions.
