Trimco TRI-1194-1.626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Trimco 1194 door pull meet ADA requirements for a school or government building?
The 1194 straight grip is ADA compliant, with a 2 inch clearance between the grip and the door face so a closed fist or a gloved hand can get behind it. That clearance is the number an inspector looks at on a push/pull opening. It is a commercial-duty pull, rated heavy duty, and Trimco lists it for schools, government and military facilities, retail, hospitality, and multifamily.
2) What center-to-center sizes does the Trimco 1194 straight pull come in?
Four center-to-center lengths: 6, 8, 10, and 12 inches. CTC is the distance between the mounting hole centers, so it is the number to match against the holes already drilled in your door if you are swapping a pull out. The 1194 grip stock is 3/4 inch round.
3) Can I get a Trimco 1194 pull to match the chrome and stainless hardware already on my building's doors?
Eleven finishes on the 1194: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 628 satin aluminum, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, and 710CU Healthy Hardware Steralloy silver. Those are standard BHMA finish codes, so 626 on a pull lands with 626 on your locksets and closers. For a fleet of openings, order the code, not the color name.
4) Is there another 3/4 inch round straight door pull I could use instead of the Trimco 1194?
The closest equivalent we carry is the Ives 8102HD, a heavy duty straight pull also on 3/4 inch round bar, but with 1-1/2 inch clearance rather than the 1194's 2 inches. That half inch matters if you are working to an ADA push/pull detail or matching an existing pull's standoff. If you want heavier bar stock, the Ives 8103HD is a 1 inch round straight pull with through bolt mounting, and the ABH AB3300 is a 1 inch diameter straight flat end pull.
5) What is the closest equivalent to a Trimco 1194 straight grip in 3/4 inch round bar?
The Ives 8102HD heavy duty straight door pull uses the same 3/4 inch round bar stock in a straight grip form, so it is the nearest match in bar profile and duty. The Trimco 1194 straight grip is 3/4 inch round with 2 inch clearance and 2-3/4 inch projection, and is offered from 6 inch through 12 inch center-to-center. The Ives 8102HD carries 1-1/2 inch clearance, so a door with surface-mounted hardware or a glove-heavy user group sized around the Trimco 2 inch clearance should be checked against the tighter figure before swapping.
6) The 1194 straight grip does not clear the door frame on my opening. What offset pull should I use instead?
An offset pull moves the grip away from the door face and is the usual answer when a straight grip fouls a frame, a mullion, or an adjacent panel. The Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset door pull with heavy duty mounting hardware, ADA compliant, in the EZ series. The Ives 8169 is a C style offset solid pull at 1 inch diameter with heavy duty mounting. On the ABH side, the AB3310 is an offset flat end pull in surface mount, and the AB3330 is an offset round end pull with custom length options. The Trimco 1194 straight grip is itself ADA compliant and heavy duty, so an offset swap does not have to give up either.
7) Is a Cal-Royal PUL-175 a substitute for a Trimco 1194 straight grip?
No. The Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2 inch height, in stainless steel construction. It is the small pull that mounts around a rim cylinder on a night latch door, not a full-length grip for pulling an entrance leaf. The Trimco 1194 straight grip is a 3/4 inch round straight grip in 6, 8, 10, and 12 inch center-to-center with 2-3/4 inch projection, meant to be gripped by the hand across its length. The two answer different openings and are not interchangeable.
8) How far does the Trimco 1194 pull stick out from the door face?
Projection is 2-3/4 inches overall, with 2 inches of that being open clearance for the hand. That matters where the pull sits near a wall return, in a corridor with a tight swing path, or on a door that has to clear a stop or an adjacent leaf. Measure from the door face out, not from the grip.
9) Is the Trimco 1194 solid metal or plated pot metal?
Grip stock is stainless steel, bronze, or brass depending on the finish ordered, not plated zinc. Trimco builds the straight grip line from stainless, bronze, brass, and aluminum for durability. On a school or a retail entrance getting thousands of cycles a day, that is what separates a pull that stays tight from one that wears through the plating at the grip point.
10) Straight pull or offset pull for a commercial entrance door?
A straight grip like the 1194 runs parallel to the door edge and is what most commercial push/pull and glass front openings use, especially where the pull mounts back-to-back with a push plate or a second grip. An offset pull angles the grip away from the door so the hand approaches at a more natural wrist angle, which some specs prefer on heavy or high-traffic doors. If you want the offset geometry instead, the Ives 8145 EZ Series is a 45 degree offset pull and the Ives 8169 is a C style offset in 1 inch diameter; ABH's AB3310 and AB3330 are offset flat end and offset round end pulls.
11) Can the Trimco 1194 be mounted back-to-back with another pull on the same door?
Back-to-back mounting is available on Trimco's straight grips, which is how you get a pull on both faces of a door sharing one set of through fasteners. Specify it when ordering, since the alternative is a single-side pull typically paired with a push plate on the opposite face. Also worth knowing: the fOCAL design option is offered on the straight grip line.
12) Is the Trimco 1194 a door pull or a latch handle? Does it lock?
The 1194 is a pull only, a 3/4 inch round grip that mounts to the door face. There is no latch, no cylinder, and no locking function in it, so the door still needs a lock, exit device, or closer to control it. If what you actually want is a pull that works with a cylinder for a night latch application, the Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a 3-1/2 inch night latch cylinder pull in stainless steel.
13) Does the Trimco 1194 pull have a handing, or is it the same part for a left and right hand door?
No handing on the 1194. A straight grip is symmetrical end to end, so the same part goes on a left or right hand door and on either face. Pick the center-to-center length, 6, 8, 10, or 12 inches, and the finish, and that is the whole selection. Emtek's Art Nouveau pull, by contrast, does require handing at the time of order.
14) I need a pull longer than 12 inch center-to-center. What are my options?
The Trimco 1194 straight grip runs 6, 8, 10, and 12 inch center-to-center in 3/4 inch round, and Trimco's straight grip range extends to 18 inch center-to-center across its material options. For longer single grips, the Deltana SSP1210 is a 12 inch contemporary pull for single-side mounting, and the ABH AB3330 offset round end pull is offered with custom length options. The Deltana SSPOBB24 and SSPORBB24 run 24 inch as back-to-back offset sets.
15) I need a back-to-back pull set on a glass or interior door. Is the 1194 straight grip the right part, or is there a set sold as a pair?
Several peers ship as a matched pair for both faces of the door. The Deltana OHP620 is an off-set handle pull sold as a back-to-back set with a 1-1/8 inch to 1-3/8 inch door thickness range. The Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back modern offset pull, and the SSPORBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back round offset pull. The Trimco 1194 straight grip is a 3/4 inch round straight grip in 6 inch through 12 inch center-to-center; Trimco's straight grip range does include back-to-back mounting as an option, so confirm the mounting called out on the order rather than assuming from the grip profile alone.
16) What is the difference between a flat end pull and the Trimco 1194 straight grip?
The end treatment is the difference. The ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end pull handle at 1.00 inch diameter, the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull at 7/8 inch diameter with through-bolt mounting, and the ABH AB3310 is an offset flat end pull in surface mount. The Trimco 1194 is a 3/4 inch round straight grip from Trimco's straight grip range, which is built in stainless steel, bronze, brass, and aluminum in round, 3/4 round, and half-round stock. Flat end and round end pulls mount to the same style of opening; the choice is a design specification call and, on the ABH parts, a mounting method call between surface mount and through-bolt.
