Trimco TRI-1277.626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Trimco 1277 wall bumper work as a door stop when the lockset lever is what hits the wall?
That is what the 1277 is built for. It is a 4 inch diameter cast wall bumper with a convex industrial rubber face, and the 1270 family it belongs to is made to take the strike of any style of lockset or handle. The large 4 inch face is the one to pick when you are not sure exactly where the lever will land, or when different doors in the same building carry different trim, because it gives you a much wider target than a small-diameter stop. Mount it so the center of the rubber sits at the height of the part of the door that projects furthest.
2) Does the Trimco 1277 come with anchors, or do I need to buy fasteners for drywall and block separately?
Fasteners come with it. Each 1270 series bumper ships with a combination fastener pack covering a range of wall conditions, so drywall, masonry and stud installs are handled out of the same box. That matters if you are stopping doors across a mixed building and do not know in advance what is behind each wall.
3) Is there a Trimco wall bumper that will not get pulled off the wall in a school or a detention facility?
The 1277 itself resists the usual abuse two ways: it is cast rather than wrought, and a heavy steel washer is cast into the rubber so the bumper cannot be torn or pried off its screw. For genuinely hostile openings, Trimco builds dedicated versions in the same family. The 1270CVPV and 1270CXPV prison models add an anti-rotation pin so the unit cannot be twisted off the wall, and the 1270CVSV and 1270CXSV school models are surface mounted. If the stop is in a corridor or a cell block rather than an office, specify one of those instead.
4) Convex or concave rubber on a Trimco 1270 series wall bumper, which one do I need?
The 1277 is the convex version, meaning the rubber crowns outward. Pick convex when a lever, knob or pull is what contacts the bumper, since the raised face meets a projecting part of the trim squarely. The concave bumper in the same 1270 family is the one for a flat contact, where a flush face of the door or the edge of a plate lands on the stop and you want it seated rather than riding on a dome. Getting this wrong does not stop the door from working, but the door will skid off a domed face if the contact point is flat.
5) What is the BHMA number for the Trimco 1277 wall stop for my hardware schedule?
The 1277 carries BHMA L02101/L0225. Those are the codes to drop into a spec or a submittal when the schedule calls out a wall bumper by BHMA designation rather than by manufacturer part number, which is how most institutional and government specs are written.
6) What finishes does the Trimco 1277 4 inch wall bumper come in, and can I match the levers already on my doors?
Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Those are standard BHMA finish numbers, so if your existing lock trim is called out as a 626 or a 613, order the bumper in the same number and it will read as a set. The 613 and 613E are worth separating in your head: 613 is the lighter oil rubbed bronze and 613E is the darker oxidized version, and they do not match each other on the same wall.
7) Is the 4 inch Trimco 1277 too big, or is there a smaller wall bumper in the same series?
Four inches across is the large size in the 1270 family, and it is more bumper than a narrow trim strip or a tight reveal will take. Trimco makes the same stop in small and in a designer fOCAL style, so if the wall surface you are mounting to is limited, or the look matters more than the contact area, go to one of those. Stay with the 4 inch when the lever swings hard into plain wall and you want the impact spread over a wide face.
8) Is the Trimco 1277 rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential stop?
Commercial. The 1277 is a cast, metal-encased wall stop specified into schools, government and military facilities, retail, hospitality, multifamily, detention facilities and office buildings. It is not a light-duty residential bumper, which is why it shows up on hardware schedules for high-traffic corridors.
9) Can I replace a worn wall bumper without taking the whole cast base off the wall?
Not on the 1277. The rubber has a heavy steel washer cast into it specifically so it cannot be removed from the base, which is what keeps it from being vandalized or walked off with. That is a deliberate tradeoff: you get a bumper nobody can pull out, and you replace the unit rather than the rubber when it finally wears through. Trimco does publish a separate 1275RP replacement part with its own install instructions if a rebuildable stop is what your maintenance program wants.
