1) Will Trimco 3825L flush bolts work on a wood door pair, or are they only for hollow metal?
The 3825Lx3815L set is the wood door version of Trimco's 3800 Series flush bolts. If your inactive leaf is hollow metal, order the metal door version instead (3820x3810 for semi-automatic, 3810x3810 for automatic). Same series, different bolt bodies and prep, so the wood set is not a substitute on a steel leaf.
2) What is the difference between a semi-automatic and an automatic flush bolt on a pair of doors?
An automatic flush bolt throws the bolt on its own when the active leaf closes against the inactive leaf. A semi-automatic bolt like the 3825L is set by hand with the lever, then releases automatically when the active leaf opens, so the inactive leaf can be freed without stooping to a manual bolt. Trimco builds both in the 3800 Series for wood doors: 3825Lx3815L semi-automatic, 3815Lx3815L automatic. Pick semi-automatic when you want the inactive leaf to stay latched until someone deliberately opens the pair.
3) Can I use Trimco 3825L flush bolts on a fire rated pair of wood doors?
The 3825Lx3815L is UL listed, but a fire rated pair usually also needs a fire bolt at the top of the inactive leaf. Trimco covers that with the 3825Lx3850 (semi-automatic with fire bolt) and the 3815Lx3850 (automatic with fire bolt) for wood doors. If your opening carries a fire label, specify one of the 3850 combinations rather than the 3815L top bolt.
4) What do the two model numbers in Trimco 3825Lx3815L mean, and is it a complete pair?
You get both bolts for one inactive leaf: the 3825L is the semi-automatic bolt and the 3815L is the mating bolt, one at the top of the door and one at the bottom. It is one order for one inactive leaf, not two separate line items.
5) What finishes do Trimco 3800 Series wood door flush bolts come in?
Ten choices, all architectural finishes: bright brass (605), satin brass (606), oil rubbed bronze (613), dark oxidized satin bronze (613E), matte black (622), bright chrome (625), satin chrome (626), bright stainless steel (629), satin stainless steel (630), and a 626/630 satin chrome with satin stainless combination. If you are matching existing hardware across a building, 626 and 630 are the usual commercial standards and the 626/630 pairing lets the exposed trim match chrome lever hardware while the bolt body stays stainless.
6) Can I change the finish or trim on a Trimco 3800 flush bolt without replacing the whole bolt?
The 3800 Series uses interchangeable trim kits, so the exposed face plate can be swapped without pulling the bolt mechanism. Trimco sells the wood door semi-automatic trim on its own as the 3830WL long finish kit, which is what you want if a remodel changes the finish schedule or a face plate gets damaged and the bolt itself is fine.
7) Do I need a flush bolt or an exit device on the inactive leaf of my door pair?
Flush bolts like the 3825L hold the inactive leaf shut so the active leaf has something to latch against, and they are for leaves that are not part of the normal egress path. If people regularly exit through both leaves, or the code official requires both leaves to open under a single motion, a flush bolt is the wrong answer and you want a vertical rod exit device on that leaf instead. The 3825L is a commercial rated product but it assumes the inactive leaf stays inactive.
