1) Is the Trimco 3825Lx3850 flush bolt for wood doors or hollow metal doors?
Wood doors. The 3825L bolt and the 3850 fire bolt pairing is the wood door version of Trimco's 3800 Series. If your inactive leaf is hollow metal, use the metal door version instead: 3820x3810 for the semi-automatic without a fire bolt, or 3820x3850 for the semi-automatic with the fire bolt. Ordering the wood set for a metal door means the wrong mortise case and faceplate prep.
2) What is the difference between the Trimco semi-automatic flush bolt and the automatic version?
With a semi-automatic bolt like the 3825L, you throw the bolt by hand into the strike, and it releases automatically when the active leaf opens and pushes the release. An automatic bolt, Trimco's 3815L for wood doors, projects the bolt on its own when the inactive leaf closes, so nobody has to remember to set it. Semi-automatic is the usual pick where the inactive leaf gets opened often and staff want control over when it is latched; automatic is the pick where you cannot rely on anyone setting it.
3) What does the 3850 half of the Trimco 3825Lx3850 part number mean?
The 3850 is the fire bolt, the top bolt that goes into the head frame on a fire rated pair. The 3825L is the bottom, hand operated semi-automatic bolt. Ordered together as 3825Lx3850, you get the complete two bolt set for one inactive wood leaf. If your opening is not fire rated, the equivalent set is the 3825Lx3815L.
4) Is the Trimco 3800 Series flush bolt UL listed for fire doors?
The 3825Lx3850 set is UL listed and is the fire bolt configuration, which is what a fire rated pair of wood doors needs on the inactive leaf under the door assembly's listing. One set covers one inactive leaf, top and bottom.
5) How many Trimco 3825Lx3850 sets do I need for a pair of doors?
