Trimco TRI-7009.626 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Trimco 7009 push plate need screws, or does it stick on?
No screws and no drilling. The 7009 fOCAL push plate mounts with heavy duty adhesive tape, so the face of the door stays clean with no visible fasteners. That makes it a straightforward retrofit over an existing door face, but it also means the door surface has to be smooth, sound, and clean enough for tape to bond. On a door where you want mechanical fastening instead, a through-bolted or screw-mounted plate or pull is the safer specification.
2) What size is the Trimco 7009 push plate, and can I get other sizes?
The 7009 is the 6 x 16 inch fOCAL push plate. Trimco's standard fOCAL sizes are 4 x 16 and 6 x 16 inches, and custom sizes are made as well. The 6 inch width gives more hand coverage on a heavily used opening; the 4 inch is the tighter option where the stile or a vision lite crowds the space.
3) Does the door thickness matter for a Trimco fOCAL push plate?
It does not. The plate adheres to the face of the door and nothing passes through it, so 1-3/8, 1-3/4, or anything thicker all work the same. Thickness only comes into play on through bolted hardware, such as the Deltana OHP620 back to back offset pull, which is built for 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 inch doors. All the 7009 needs is 6 by 16 inches of clear, flat, clean door face.
4) The door face cannot take adhesive tape - what mounts mechanically instead of a fOCAL push plate?
The Trimco 7009 fOCAL mounts with heavy duty adhesive tape, which suits a clean face with no fastener holes. Where the hardware has to be mechanically fastened through the door, the Ives 8103HD is a heavy duty straight door pull, 1" round, with through bolt mounting, and the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull, 7/8" diameter, also through-bolt mounted. The Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset pull supplied with heavy duty mounting hardware. Those are pulls rather than flat plates, so on the push face they change the hardware from a wipe surface to a grip.
5) Is a Cal-Royal PUL-175 an alternative to a Trimco 7009 push plate?
No. The Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2" in height, in stainless steel construction - it mounts over a rim cylinder and gives a grip at the cylinder on a night latch door. The Trimco 7009 fOCAL is a 6" x 16" push plate that adheres to a blank door face and operates nothing. A door needing a cylinder pull needs the PUL-175 or equivalent at the cylinder; a push plate does not cover or accept a cylinder.
6) The opening needs an ADA compliant grip rather than a flat push surface - what takes the place of the 7009 fOCAL?
The Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset door pull described as ADA compliant, from the EZ series, with heavy duty mounting hardware. The Ives 8102HD is a heavy duty straight pull with a 3/4" round bar and 1-1/2" clearance, giving hand space behind the bar. The Trimco 7009 fOCAL is a flat 6" x 16" push plate - a push surface, not a graspable handle - so where an operable grip is required at the opening, the offset or clearance pull is the part that serves it, with the plate reserved for the push face.
7) What material and gauge is the Trimco fOCAL push plate made from?
Made in the United States from .050 inch stainless steel, bronze, or brass, depending on the finish ordered. The .050 thickness is a solid metal plate rather than a thin foil applique, which is what lets it stand up to constant hand contact in a commercial corridor.
8) What finishes does the Trimco 7009 fOCAL push plate come in?
Ten finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless steel, 630 satin stainless steel, and 710CU Healthy Hardware Steralloy Silver. If you are matching existing openings, 630 satin stainless and 626 satin chrome are the two that most commonly line up with commercial lever and closer hardware already in a building.
9) Can I use the Trimco 7009 adhesive push plate on a fire rated door?
Treat this as a decorative and door face protection plate, not a listed component. The 7009 is a surface applied plate held on with adhesive tape; specify it for commercial and industrial buildings, retail, hospitality, and multifamily corridors. For any opening where the hardware itself has to carry a listing, use a mechanically fastened plate specified to that requirement.
10) Will an adhesive push plate hold up in a high traffic building?
The bond is only as good as the door face under it. Adhesive mounting works well on smooth painted metal, glass, and factory finished doors, which covers most commercial and multifamily corridors. Where the door is heavily textured, chipping, or takes cart traffic, a through bolted or screw mounted plate or a heavy duty pull like the Ives 8102HD is the more durable specification. The plate itself is .050 inch solid stainless, bronze, or brass, so the metal is not the weak point.
11) Is the Trimco 7009 handed, and do I need to specify a side?
No handing. A 6 x 16 inch flat push plate is symmetrical, so one part number covers left and right hand doors and either leaf of a pair. That is different from a shaped pull such as the Emtek Art Nouveau 8 inch door pull, which is ordered by hand. If you are doing a whole building, you order the 7009 by finish only.
12) What is the equivalent for a glass or narrow-stile entrance where hardware has to be back-to-back on both faces?
The Trimco 7009 fOCAL adheres to one face, so it does not deliver matched hardware on both sides of the leaf. For a back-to-back set, the Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24" back-to-back modern offset door pull and the Deltana SSPORBB24 is a 24" back-to-back round offset pull; the Deltana OHP620 is an off-set handle pull supplied as a back-to-back set for door thicknesses of 1-1/8" to 1-3/8". Back-to-back pulls read the same from either side of the entrance, where a push plate is seen only from the push side.
13) Is the 710CU Steralloy Silver finish an antimicrobial copper option?
710CU is Trimco's Healthy Hardware Steralloy Silver, a copper-alloy finish offered on the fOCAL plates alongside the standard brass, bronze, and chrome codes. It is the finish healthcare and food service specifiers reach for when they want a copper alloy on the touch surface. For a plain decorative match, any of the other nine finishes will be less costly to standardize on across a building.
14) Which pull can be ordered in a length other than the standard offering, the way fOCAL plates come in custom sizes?
The Trimco 7009 fOCAL is stocked in standard 4" x 16" and 6" x 16" sizes with custom sizes also available. On the pull side, the ABH AB3330 is an offset round end pull offered with custom length options. The ABH AB3300 straight flat end pull and the ABH AB3310 offset flat end pull are the flat end shapes in the same family of commercial surface mount pulls, and the Ives 8102HD is a heavy duty straight pull with a 3/4" round bar and 1-1/2" clearance. Matching a custom plate height to a made-to-length pull keeps the push and pull faces proportioned on a tall entrance leaf.
