Trimco TRI-BP1.626 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size hole do Trimco BP back plates have, and how do I pick the right one for my cabinet knob screw?
The BP Series back plates come with four center hole sizes: 3/16 inch (BP15), 1/4 inch (BP1, BP5, BP14), 5/16 inch (BP2, BP3, BP4, BP6, BP7, BP8, BP9, BP10) and 7/16 inch (BP11, BP12, BP13). Pick the hole that clears the knob or pull screw, then pick the diameter that covers the wear ring or old hole. Most cabinet knob screws land in the 5/16 group, which is why that size runs across the widest range of plate diameters.
2) Will a Trimco BP back plate match my existing lever and door hardware finishes?
The BP plates are offered in ten standard architectural finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 628 satin aluminum, 629 bright stainless and 630 satin stainless. Those are the standard BHMA finish codes used across door hardware, so if you know the code on your levers or pulls you can order the plates to match without guessing at a color name. Custom finishes are available too.
3) Do Trimco BP back plates come with screws or the cabinet knob?
The BP plates are the plate only. They're an installation accessory meant to pair with Trimco's cabinet knobs and pulls, so you order the knob or pull separately and use its screw through the plate's center hole. Check that the screw length accounts for the added 1/8 inch of plate thickness plus your door or drawer face.
4) What diameters do Trimco BP back plates come in?
Diameters run 1/2 inch (BP8), 3/4 inch (BP5, BP7), 1 inch (BP1, BP6, BP11, BP15), 1-1/4 inch (BP2, BP12), 1-1/2 inch (BP3, BP10, BP13), 1-3/4 inch (BP9) and 2 inch (BP4, BP14). If you are covering damage or a finish shadow left by a previous knob rose, measure the marked area and go one step larger, since the plate only hides what it covers.
5) What are Trimco BP back plates made of, and are they solid metal?
Solid metal, not plated pot metal. They're made in the United States from 1/8 inch stainless steel, brass or bronze, with stainless as the standard substrate. The material follows the finish you order, so a 630 satin stainless plate is stainless and a 613 oil rubbed bronze plate is bronze.
6) Are Trimco BP back plates ADA compliant for a commercial job?
Yes, the BP Series back plates are ADA compliant and specified as commercial grade hardware. That matters on government, healthcare, education and multifamily work where the cabinet hardware package has to hold up to the same review as the door hardware.
7) What is a cabinet back plate actually for, and do I need one?
A back plate sits between the cabinet knob or pull and the door or drawer face. It spreads the load so the fastener doesn't dish thin veneer or MDF, it hides the ring of wear and finish shadow around an existing hole, and it gives the hardware an architectural edge. On a refresh where the new knobs are smaller than the old ones, a BP plate in a larger diameter is often the difference between a clean job and refinishing every door. If you're drilling fresh cabinets with matched hardware, it's cosmetic rather than required.
8) I need to standardize back plates across a whole building. Can I get one model in every finish?
Yes. Finish and model are ordered independently across the BP Series, so a single plate size, say BP3 at 1-1/2 inch with a 5/16 inch hole, can be specified in any of the ten standard finishes for different areas of a facility. That keeps one drill pattern and one part number in the spec while letting lobby, back of house and guest areas carry different finishes.
9) Is there an installation template for Trimco BP back plates?
Trimco publishes an installation template covering BP1 through BP4, document T11398, linked from the product information. Those four are the 1 inch, 1-1/4 inch, 1-1/2 inch and 2 inch plates. For the other models in the series you're working off the plate's own center hole, which is the only drilled feature.
