1) What is a stretcher plate and how is it different from a regular kick plate?
A stretcher plate is a protection plate mounted where gurneys, carts, and stretchers hit the door face, so it goes higher up the door than a kick plate rather than down at the bottom rail. The Trimco KS050 stretcher plate ships countersunk with a heavy bevel on all four edges and oval head screws as standard, which keeps the screw heads and plate edges from catching on a passing cart. A standard Trimco kick plate comes with a pencil bevel instead.
2) How thick is the Trimco KS050 stretcher plate, and what do I order if I want thinner or heavier material?
KS050 is the .050 inch version, countersunk with heavy bevel on all four edges. Trimco also builds the same stretcher plate as KS038 in .038 inch. Beyond the stretcher plates, the K-Series protection plate line runs .038, .050, .062 and .125 inch material, so a high abuse opening can be specified up to .125 inch.
3) Can I get the Trimco stretcher plate on a fire rated door?
UL labeling is one of the listed options on Trimco's protection plates, so it has to be specified with the order. If the plate is going on a labeled opening, call out the UL label option; the standard plate does not carry it.
4) What finishes does the Trimco KS050 stretcher plate come in, and can I match the other plates on my doors?
Nine finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 628 clear anodize, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, and 710CU Steralloy silver. 630 satin stainless is the usual commercial match for existing stainless kick plates and push plates in a school or hospital corridor.
5) Is the Trimco KS050 stretcher plate ADA compliant?
Yes, the KS050 is flagged ADA compliant. The countersunk screws and heavy bevel keep the plate face and fasteners from creating a raised edge on the door.
6) Can I get a stretcher plate cut around a lock, exit device or vision light?
Yes. Trimco makes custom cutouts, custom sizes and custom shapes on its protection plates, so a plate can be prepped around a mortise lock trim, a rim device, or a lite frame rather than fighting an off-the-shelf rectangle. Give the opening dimensions and the hardware locations when you order.
7) Are security screws available for stretcher plates in a school or detention corridor?
Security screws are a listed option on Trimco protection plates. Standard on the stretcher plate is oval head screws with countersinking; specify security fasteners if the plate is in a K-12 corridor or another area where removal is a concern.
