1) What is a stretcher plate and how is it different from a kick plate or armor plate?
A stretcher plate is a door protection plate mounted where carts, gurneys, and equipment strike the door face, rather than at the bottom where shoes and kicks land. Trimco's KS series stretcher plates come with heavy bevel and oval head screws as standard, which is the difference on the order form: kick and armor plates ship pencil beveled on all four edges, while the stretcher plate gets the heavy bevel so a passing cart rides over the edge instead of catching it.
2) Can I get a Trimco stretcher plate for a fire rated door?
UL labeling is one of the options Trimco offers on its protection plates, so it has to be called out when the plate is ordered. On a fire rated opening, ask for the UL labeled version specifically. A standard unlabeled plate is not the right part for a labeled door assembly.
3) What gauge material is the Trimco KS stretcher plate and can I get it thicker for an abusive opening?
.050 inch is the standard material thickness. Trimco also offers .038 inch, .062 inch and .125 inch. For a hospital corridor or a receiving door taking repeated cart impact, step up to .062 or .125; the .038 is the lighter option where you mainly want cosmetic coverage. Within the KS series designations, KS050 is the .050 inch countersunk heavy B4E plate and KS038 is the .038 inch version.
4) Can I order a Trimco stretcher plate with cutouts for an existing lock or exit device?
Yes. Custom cutouts, sizes and shapes are available, which is how you get a plate around an installed mortise lock, cylinder, or exit device mounting without pulling the hardware. Provide the opening's existing prep locations when you order. Countersinking and security screws are also available options if the plate is going somewhere it may be tampered with.
5) What finishes does the Trimco KS064 stretcher plate come in?
Six finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, and 630 satin stainless steel. If you are matching plates to existing push/pull trim or hinges in a building, 630 satin stainless is the usual commercial standard and the one that hides scuffing best on a high-traffic opening; 605 and 606 will show wear patterns faster on a cart-traffic door.
6) What material is the Trimco KS064 stretcher plate made from?
Stainless steel is the substrate on the KS064. Trimco's protection plate line is also made in brass, bronze and aluminum, all manufactured in the USA. Stainless is what most institutional and healthcare specs land on because it takes cleaning chemicals and cart scuffing without finish loss.
7) Is the Trimco KS stretcher plate ADA compliant?
Yes, the KS064 stretcher plate is ADA compliant. That matters on a door face plate because anything projecting off the face can interfere with the required smooth, unobstructed surface on the push side; the heavy beveled edges keep the plate from creating a catch point.
8) Are the mounting screws included with the Trimco KS stretcher plate?
