1) Will the Trine 001 electric strike work with my lockset's latch throw?
The Trine 001 handles locksets with up to 5/8 inch throw, based on a 1/8 inch door gap. Its keeper cavity is 1/2 inch deep, 9/16 inch wide and 1-1/2 inch high, so a standard cylindrical or mortise latch in that range drops in. If your latch throws more than 5/8 inch, or your gap is wider than 1/8 inch and the latch is not fully engaging the cavity, this is the wrong strike.
2) If the power goes out, does a Trine 001 strike unlock or stay locked?
It stays locked. The 001 is fail-secure standard action, meaning it unlocks only when power is applied, so a power loss leaves the door secure and the outside lever or knob still needs a key. Egress from inside is by the lockset, not the strike. If your opening needs to release on power failure instead, the 001 has an RS fail-safe option on DC only (add RS to the model number), or look at a field reversible strike like the Hager 2925 or 2928.
3) Which voltage should I order on a Trine 001, and which ones buzz?
Five voltages are offered: 8-16VAC/4-6VDC, 12VAC, 12VDC, 24VAC and 24VDC. The AC options are intermittent duty and buzz, which is what you want on a doorbell style buzz-in entry: 24AC draws 1.40 amps at 4.7 ohms, and the 8-16VAC/4-6VDC winding draws 1.3-2.7 amps at 1.4 ohms. The DC options are continuous duty and silent, for access control tied to a card reader or keypad: 12VDC at 0.40 amps, 24VDC at 0.19 amps. Intermittent duty coils are not meant to be held energized.
4) I am replacing an old strike and do not want to recut the jamb. Is the Trine 001 a drop-in?
Only if your existing pocket matches: the 001 needs a 5-7/8 by 1-1/4 inch face cutout and 1-9/16 inch of mortise backset. That is a taller faceplate than the common 4-7/8 by 1-1/4 inch ANSI prep, so it will not drop into an ANSI cut without filling and recutting. If your jamb is already ANSI prepped, the Dortronics 3300 uses a 4-7/8 by 1-1/4 inch ANSI strike plate. If you would rather not cut at all, the Locknetics NC450 is a no-cut strike.
5) What is a fire-rated alternative to the Trine 001 electric strike for a labeled door opening?
The Trine 001 is a light commercial fail-secure strike that is not fire rated, so a labeled opening needs a strike carrying a fire rating.
