1) Will the Trine 2678 electric strike fit an aluminum storefront jamb?
Yes. The Trine 2678 is built for aluminum or hollow metal jamb installations, new or replacement. The faceplate is 6-7/8 by 1-1/4 inches, mortise backset 1-9/16 inches, with a cavity 9/16 inch deep, 5/8 inch wide and 1-11/16 inches high. Check those cavity numbers against the jamb tube you are cutting into before you commit.
2) Does the Trine 2678 strike stay locked if the power goes out?
It does. The 2678 is fail-secure, so the keeper stays locked with no power and the door still opens from the inside by the lever or panic hardware. If you need the opposite behavior, Trine offers an RS fail-safe option on DC only, ordered by adding RS to the model number.
3) What latchbolt throw will the Trine 2678 accept?

Current draw is 0.20 to 0.33A at 12VDC and 0.11 to 0.47A at 24VDC.
6) What electric strike should I use instead of the Trine 2678 on a fire-rated opening?
The Trine 2678 is not fire rated, so on a labeled opening choose a strike that is. The Von Duprin 6400 carries a 3-hour UL 10C fire rating in its fail-secure configuration, is Grade 1, and serves mortise or cylindrical locks like the 2678 does. The Hager 2930 is a fire-rated Grade 1 strike for cylindrical and mortise locks with 12/24VDC dual voltage, and the Camden CX-ED1410/CX-ED1420 universal strikes are Grade 1 ANSI fire rated. 7) My jamb is prepped for a 4-7/8 inch ANSI faceplate - what works there instead of the Trine 2678?
The Trine 2678 uses a 6-7/8 inch x 1-1/4 inch faceplate, so it will not drop into a 4-7/8 inch cutout. For that prep, the Dortronics 3300 series uses a 4-7/8 inch x 1-1/4 inch strike plate for ANSI prep, and the Adams Rite 7100, 7160 and 7170 all use a 1-1/4 inch x 4-7/8 inch faceplate - the 7100 and 7160 for aluminum jambs, the 7170 for hollow metal and wood jambs.
8) I need fail-safe operation instead of fail-secure - what are my options besides the Trine 2678?
The Trine 2678 is a fail-secure strike, with an RS fail-safe option available on DC models only. If you want a strike whose mode can be flipped in the field, the Hager 2925 and Hager 2928 both offer field reversible fail safe/secure operation, and the Hager 2925 takes a 5/8 inch latch, matching the 5/8 inch throw the 2678 handles. The Hager 2945 is field selectable as well but is a rim exit strike rather than a jamb-mounted unit.
9) Can the Trine 2678 be used on an exterior gate?
No - the Trine 2678 is not outdoor rated and is intended for aluminum or hollow metal jamb installations. For a gate or exposed exterior application, the Camden CX-ED1959 series is specifically an outdoor rated electric gate strike.
