Trine 2007CRS-24DC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the RS suffix mean the strike unlocks when the power drops?
Yes. RS is Trine's fail-safe option, so the strike is locked while energized and releases when power is removed, the usual setup for an egress or emergency-release opening. Fail-safe on the 2000 Series is DC only, which is why the 2007RS is offered in 12 VDC and 24 VDC and not AC.
2) How much current does the 2007RS draw at 12 and 24 VDC?
At 12 VDC it draws 0.20 to 0.33 A through a 60 ohm coil; at 24 VDC it draws 0.11 to 0.47 A through a 120 ohm coil. Both are continuous duty and silent, so size your access control power supply accordingly and remember a fail-safe strike is energized all the time it is locked.
3) I need the strike to stay locked if power fails instead of releasing. What do I order?
Not the RS version. The RS suffix is the fail-safe option; a fail-secure 2007 is the base model without it. If you would rather have the choice in the field, the Hager 2925 and 2928 are field reversible between fail safe and fail secure.
4) The Trine 2007RS is not fire rated - what electric strike works on a fire-rated opening with the same 4-7/8 inch ANSI prep?
The Trine 2007RS is a fail-safe strike and carries no fire rating, so it is not the part for a labeled opening. For a fire-rated opening taking mortise or cylindrical locks, the Von Duprin 6400 32D is a Grade 1 modular electric strike for mortise or cylindrical locks with a 3-hour UL 10C rating in fail-secure, and the Hager 2930 is a fire-rated Grade 1 strike for cylindrical and mortise locks with 12/24VDC dual voltage. The Von Duprin 4211 32D is a fire-rated Grade 1 cylindrical-lock strike with 12/24 VDC field-selectable operation. Note that fire-rated strikes are generally fail-secure, which is the opposite of the 2007RS release behavior.
5) The Trine 2007RS is for metal jambs - what should I use in an aluminum storefront jamb instead?
The 2007RS is intended for new or replacement installations in metal jambs and fits a standard 4-7/8 inch ANSI prep. For an aluminum storefront jamb, the Adams Rite 7100 Series electric strike is built for aluminum jambs with a flat faceplate in the same 1-1/4 inch x 4-7/8 inch size, and the Adams Rite 7160 is likewise an aluminum jamb strike with a 1-1/4 inch x 4-7/8 inch faceplate. If the jamb turns out to be hollow metal or wood, the Adams Rite 7170 covers those with the same faceplate dimensions.
6) The Trine 2007RS is not outdoor rated - what electric strike can I use on an exterior gate?
The 2007RS is not outdoor rated and is intended for interior light commercial metal jamb work. For a gate or exposed exterior application, the Camden CX-ED1959 Series is an outdoor rated electric gate strike. Do not substitute the 2007RS into a weather-exposed opening on the basis of faceplate size alone.
7) I need latchbolt monitoring with my electric strike - does the Trine 2007RS offer that?
The Trine 2007RS is a plain adjustable strike with screw terminals for quick connection and no monitoring output. For a strike that reports latch status back to the access control panel in the same 4-7/8 inch x 1-1/4 inch ANSI prep, the Dortronics 3300 Series includes a latch bolt sensing switch and a strike plate for ANSI prep at 4-7/8 in x 1-1/4 in, running 12/24VDC. The Camden CX-ED1799L-8 is a fire-rated Grade 1 dual monitor strike shipping with eight faceplates, and the Hager 2945 adds a latchbolt monitor on rim exit applications.
8) What is the closest equivalent to the Trine 2007RS if I want the option to set fail-safe or fail-secure in the field?
The Trine 2007RS is factory fail-safe on DC only - the RS suffix fixes that behavior. If you want the same opening covered but with the release mode selectable at install, the Hager 2925 is an electric strike for a 5/8 inch latch with field reversible fail safe/fail secure operation, and the Hager 2928 offers the same field reversible fail safe/secure function. The Hager 2945 is a rim exit strike with field selectable fail safe/fail secure plus a latchbolt monitor, so that one is for rim exit devices rather than the mortise or cylindrical locks the 2007RS serves.
9) Is the Trine 2007RS a Grade 1 heavy duty strike, or do I need something else for a high-traffic entrance?
The 2007RS is a light commercial electric strike rated at 500,000 life cycles with 900 lbs holding force. If the specification calls out Grade 1 or heavy duty, look at the Alarm Controls AES-100, a Grade 1 heavy duty electric strike, the Von Duprin 6400 32D Grade 1 heavy duty modular strike for mortise or cylindrical locks, or the Securitron MUNL mortise unlatch strike, also Grade 1. The Locknetics MDS100 and MS100 are heavy duty strikes as well.
10) Can I use the Trine 2007RS on a door with a rim exit device or vertical rods?
No. The Trine 2007RS is built for mortise or cylindrical locksets with up to 5/8 inch throw in a 4-7/8 inch ANSI jamb prep. For a 3/4 inch pullman latchbolt on a rim exit device, the SDC 30-4 Series is a rim mount strike in stainless steel. For surface vertical rods, the HES Folger Adam 310-4-2 is a complete electric strike pac for that application. The Hager 2945 covers rim exit with fire rating and a latchbolt monitor.
11) Which electric strikes handle a 3/4 inch latchbolt throw if the Trine 2007RS tops out at 5/8 inch?
The Trine 2007RS is specified for locksets having up to 5/8 inch throw based on a 1/8 inch door gap, so a deeper latch projection needs a different body. The HES Folger Adam 310-1(X) is an electric strike body for 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch or 3/4 inch throw latchbolts and is Grade 1 and fire rated. The SDC 30-4 handles a 3/4 inch pullman latchbolt on rim mount applications, and the Rockwood double door electric strike uses a 3/4 keeper.
12) Do I need to order this strike handed?
No handing to specify. The 2000 Series strike is non-handed, so one part covers left and right hand openings, which helps if you are stocking spares across a building.
13) Will this Trine strike work with a mortise lock or only a cylindrical lockset?
Either. The 2007 body takes mortise or cylindrical locks as long as the latch throw is 5/8 inch or less. It is a light commercial strike for metal jambs, rated 500,000 cycles with 900 lbs holding force.
14) My existing door binds slightly against the frame. Will this strike still release?
It will. The 2000 Series keeper releases under slight door pre-load, and the 1/8 inch horizontal latch adjustment lets you take up misalignment between the door, the lockset and the jamb rather than re-hanging the door. Heavy sustained pre-load is a different problem and calls for a heavy duty body like the Locknetics MDS100 or the Alarm Controls AES-100 Grade 1 heavy duty strike.
15) Is the 2007RS heavy enough for a high-traffic commercial entrance?
It is a light commercial strike, rated 500,000 cycles with 900 lbs holding force and a solid cast chrome plated latch. That suits offices, tenant suites and interior access-controlled doors. For a main entrance or an abused opening, step up to a Grade 1 heavy duty body such as the Von Duprin 4211 or the Locknetics MS100.
16) What if the jamb cannot be cut for the Trine 2007RS 4-7/8 inch prep?
The 2007RS fits a standard 4-7/8 inch ANSI prep with little jamb modification, but it still expects a mortise backset of 1-9/16 inch and a cavity 9/16 inch deep. Where cutting the jamb is not an option, the Locknetics NC450 is a no cut electric strike. If the prep is uncertain and you want faceplates to cover several conditions, the Camden CX-ED1689L-4 is a fire-rated low profile universal strike supplied with four faceplates, and the CX-ED1799L-8 ships with eight.
17) Is there a simpler or more economical electric strike than the Trine 2007RS for a basic 5/8 inch latchbolt door?
The Trine 2007RS handles locksets with up to 5/8 inch throw based on a 1/8 inch door gap and adds 1/8 inch horizontal latch adjustment for poorly aligned doors. If the door is well aligned and you do not need that adjustment, the SDC 15 Series is a value 5/8 inch latchbolt strike with 12/24 VDC operation, matching the DC voltages the 2007RS is offered in. The RCI 15BS is an economy strike for special offset latch entry with fail-secure operation, so it will not give you the fail-safe release the RS suffix provides. For a 1/2 inch latchbolt instead, the SDC 25 Series is the match.
18) I need one electric strike I can standardize across mortise and cylindrical locks in a facility - how does the Trine 2007RS compare?
The 2007RS accepts mortise or cylindrical locksets with up to 5/8 inch throw, is non handed, and allows 1/8 inch horizontal latch adjustment for wider latch bolts and poorly aligned doors, which makes it flexible across a run of light commercial interior metal jamb openings. For the same mortise-or-cylindrical coverage on labeled openings, the Von Duprin 6400 32D is a Grade 1 modular strike for mortise or cylindrical locks in satin stainless, and the Camden CX-ED1410 and CX-ED1420 are universal Grade 1 ANSI fire-rated strikes. Facilities often pair the 2007RS on non-rated doors with a rated model on the labeled ones.
19) Will HES 1500 or 1600 accessories work with the Trine 2007RS?
No. The HES 1500 and 1600 part numbers are accessory items for the HES 1500 Series and 1600 Series Grade 1 fire-rated strikes respectively, not complete strikes and not cross-compatible with Trine bodies. The Trine 2007RS is a complete strike with a 4-7/8 inch x 1-1/4 inch narrow style steel face plate, a 1-9/16 inch mortise backset and screw terminals, and its faceplate and cavity dimensions are specific to the 2000 Series.
20) For a pair of doors, is the Trine 2007RS the right strike?
The Trine 2007RS is a single-opening strike for a metal jamb with a 4-7/8 inch ANSI prep and mortise or cylindrical locks. For a double door condition, the Rockwood double door electric strike with a 3/4 keeper is purpose-built for that application and is Grade 1 and fire rated. The Securitron MUNL mortise unlatch strike is another Grade 1 fire-rated option where the opening carries a label.
21) What finishes does the Trine 2007RS come in?
Three: brass powder coated, satin chrome (626, BHMA 652), and dark bronze powder coated. Each is offered in both 12 VDC and 24 VDC. Satin chrome is the usual match for 626/630 lever trim; the powder coats are for matching painted or dark bronze frames.
