1) Will the Trine 2009RS drop into a standard 4-7/8 inch ANSI jamb prep?
Yes, the 2009RS mounts into a standard 4-7/8 inch ANSI prep with little jamb modification. The narrow style steel face plate measures 4-7/8 by 1-1/4 inches, and the mortise backset is 1-9/16 inches with a cavity 9/16 inch deep, 5/8 inch wide and 1-11/16 inches high. It is built for metal jambs, new construction or replacement work. One thing to check on the drawing first: the latch centerline sits 3/8 inch below the ANSI centerline, which is deliberate for offset applications.
2) What latchbolt throw does the Trine 2009 electric strike accept?
Locksets with up to a 5/8 inch throw, based on a 1/8 inch door gap. That covers most standard cylindrical latches and mortise latchbolts, and the strike works with either lock type. If your existing lockset throws 3/4 inch, this is the wrong strike body; the HES Folger Adam 310-1(X) strike body handles 1/2, 5/8 or 3/4 inch throw latchbolts.
3) Does the RS suffix on the Trine 2009 mean fail-safe or fail-secure?
RS is the fail-safe option: the strike unlocks when power is removed. That is what you want on an egress-critical opening or where a fire alarm interface has to release the door. 4) My existing door is out of alignment and the latch misses the strike. Will the Trine 2000 Series help?
That is what the adjustable keeper is for. The 2000 Series gives you 1/8 inch of horizontal latch adjustment, so it takes up wider latch bolts and poorly aligned doors and locksets without re-prepping the jamb. It also releases under slight door pre-load, which is the usual complaint on a door that binds against the stop. The offset centerline (3/8 inch below ANSI) is the other half of that, aimed at openings where the latch does not land where the prep says it should.
5) Can I install a Trine 2009RS strike in an aluminum storefront jamb or on an exterior gate?
No on both counts. The 2009 is specified for metal jambs and is not outdoor rated. For an aluminum jamb, the Adams Rite 7100 and 7160 Series strikes are made for aluminum jambs and use the same 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inch faceplate footprint. For a gate or other exposed location, the Camden CX-ED1959 Series is outdoor rated.
6) What is the closest equivalent to a Trine 2009RS if I need fail-safe operation on a metal jamb?
