1) Does the Trine 3275VRP stay locked or unlock when the power goes out?
It stays locked. The 3275VRP is fail-secure, so a power loss leaves the strike keeping the vertical rod latch, and the door still opens from the inside by pushing the exit device (the push bar always retracts the rods mechanically). If your access control scheme needs the opening to release on power failure, this is the wrong strike.
2) Can I run the Trine 3275VRP on 12V or 24V, AC or DC?
All four. The strike runs 12 or 24 VAC/VDC at 13.0 ohms, drawing 0.743/0.298 amps at 12DC, 0.715/0.277 at 12AC, 0.397/0.170 at 24DC and 0.378/0.173 at 24AC, and it is rated for both intermittent and continuous duty. Operation is silent, and the wire leads are red.
3) What is the alternative to the Trine 3275VRP for a surface vertical rod door?

5) I need a fire rated strike for a labeled vertical rod opening - is the Trine 3275VRP the right part?
The Trine 3275VRP-LC is not fire rated, so a labeled opening needs a different part. Fire rated electric strikes in the same class include the Von Duprin 6400, Grade 1 with a 3-hour UL 10C rating in fail-secure, for mortise or cylindrical locks; the Von Duprin 6210 for mortise locks, UL 10C fire rated, 24 VDC fail-secure; the Hager 2930 Grade 1 for cylindrical and mortise locks with 12/24VDC dual voltage; and the Camden CX-ED1410/CX-ED1420 universal Grade 1 ANSI fire-rated strikes. 6) The Trine 3275VRP is fail-secure only - what strike gives me field selectable fail safe or fail secure?
The Trine 3275VRP-LC is fail-secure, so the door stays latched when power drops. Where the security plan or the AHJ wants the mode switchable in the field, the Hager 2925 with a 5/8 inch latch, the Hager 2928, the Hager 2930, and the Hager 2945 all offer field reversible fail safe/fail secure operation, and the Von Duprin 4211 is 12/24 VDC field-selectable. Those are lock latch and rim strikes, so on a vertical rod opening the fail-secure 3275VRP is the configuration that fits the device.
7) Can I use a rim exit device strike on a vertical rod door?
No. A rim strike catches a rim device's pullman latch at the lock stile, while a vertical rod device latches into the head at the top rod, which is why the Trine 3275VRP mounts in the header and is set up for devices like the Von Duprin 33/35 and Sargent 97/68.
