Von Duprin 969353 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Von Duprin 969353 and which exit device does it go on?
The 969353 is a thumbpiece bracket, a replacement part for Von Duprin 880TP Series exit devices. The thumbpiece is the exterior trim lever you press to retract the latch; the bracket is the mounting piece that carries it. It is sold as a single part under model number 969353, not as a complete trim or device.
2) Can I replace just the thumbpiece bracket instead of the whole exit device trim?
Yes. That is the point of stocking the 969353 as a discrete part. If the bracket is the damaged piece and the rest of the 880TP trim and the exit device are sound, you swap the bracket and leave the device in place, which keeps the opening in service instead of taking it out for a full device replacement.
3) Will the 969353 bracket fit a Von Duprin 98/99 or 33A/35A device trim?
No. The 969353 is specific to the 880TP Series thumbpiece trim. Brackets and trim parts are not interchangeable across Von Duprin exit device families, so if your device is a 98/99 or 33A/35A you need the trim part called out for that series, not this one. Confirm the series stamped on your existing device or trim before ordering.
4) Is this bracket rated for a high-traffic commercial door?
It is a heavy duty, commercial-rated part. That matches the openings 880TP trim typically lives on, school corridors, office entries, retail and healthcare exits, where the thumbpiece takes constant use. It is not a residential-duty component.
5) Is the 969353 a genuine Von Duprin part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a genuine Von Duprin component, which matters on a thumbpiece bracket because the hole pattern and the geometry that drives the device latch have to match the original 880TP assembly exactly. An approximate aftermarket bracket is where you get sloppy thumbpiece travel and a latch that does not retract fully.
6) I have a school with a mix of exit device trims. How do I know this is the right bracket for my doors?
Identify the trim, not the door. The 969353 only applies where the exterior trim is an 880TP thumbpiece type on a Von Duprin device. On a fleet of openings, pull the trim on one door and check the series marking; if your buildings were standardized on 880TP, one part number covers every one of those doors, which is why maintenance shops keep a couple on the shelf.
7) Does the 969353 include the thumbpiece, the pull, or the mounting screws?
What you are ordering is the thumbpiece bracket itself, model 969353. Treat the lever, pull plate, spindle and any other trim hardware as separate parts, and reuse the sound pieces off your existing 880TP trim. If the thumbpiece lever is also worn, order that part alongside the bracket rather than assuming it ships here.
