WAC Lighting WAC-PD-87741 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the WAC Vornado pendant be installed on a sloped or vaulted ceiling?
Yes. The Vornado mounts to the ceiling on coated electrified aircraft cables that adjust through push-pin connectors at the canopy, and WAC states it can be mounted on a slope ceiling. The driver sits inside the round canopy, so no remote driver location is needed in the joist bay.
2) What dimmer works with the WAC Vornado LED pendant?
It dims on either an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer or a 0-10V control. A standard incandescent/MLV forward-phase dimmer is not a match. If you are on 0-10V you will need the low-voltage control pair run to the fixture in addition to line voltage.
3) Will this pendant run on 277V commercial power?
Yes. The Vornado uses a universal voltage driver concealed in the canopy rated 120V, 240V and 277V, so the same fixture works on residential 120V and on 277V commercial lighting circuits without a separate transformer.
4) Can the Vornado pendant go in a covered porch or a bathroom?
It carries a damp location rating with an IP44 rating, so covered exterior areas, porches and bathrooms outside the shower spray zone are acceptable. Do not use it in an open exposed location where it will take direct rain.
5) How much light does the WAC Vornado 15.75 inch pendant put out, and what color is it?
7,818 lumens at 85 watts, in a warm 3000K white with a flood distribution through a flexible white composite diffuser. That is a lot of output for a single decorative pendant, enough to serve as the primary light source over a conference table, island or lobby seating rather than as accent only.
6) What are the actual fixture dimensions and canopy size for layout?
The Vornado body measures 41 inches long, 15.75 inches wide and 14.38 inches high. The round ceiling canopy is 8.63 inches across, so plan the outlet box and any ceiling grid or beam clearance around that footprint.
7) Does the WAC Vornado meet California Title 24 for a new build?
Yes. WAC lists it as Title 24 compliant and Title 20 compliant, which matters if you are specifying into California residential or commercial projects. It is not Energy Star listed and it is not ADA compliant, so it should not be used where an ADA-compliant fixture is required.
8) Do I ever have to change a bulb in this fixture?
No. The Vornado uses a single integrated LED array, included, rated for 50,000 average hours. There is no socket and no lamp to replace, which is the point for property managers hanging it over a high stairwell or atrium where relamping means a lift.
9) What is the Vornado pendant actually made of, and what finish does it come in?
Spun solid aluminum body plated in chrome, with a flexible white composite diffuser carrying the light. Chrome is the one finish offered, ordered as PD-87741-CH in 3000K.
10) Is this a plug-in fixture or does it need to be hardwired?
Hardwired only. The Vornado terminates in the canopy at a ceiling outlet box with the driver inside the canopy, so an electrician and a supplied junction box are required. There is no cord and plug option.
