WAC Lighting PD-84907-BK – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the WAC Vornado mini pendant be installed over a covered porch or a shower area?
The Vornado LED mini pendant is damp location listed and carries an IP44 rating, so it works indoors or in covered outdoor areas like a porch ceiling or a soffit. Damp rated is not wet rated, so keep it out of direct rain or spray. Over a tub or shower, confirm your local code requirement for that zone before you commit.
2) Will the WAC Vornado pendant work on 277V commercial lighting circuits?
Yes. A universal input driver is concealed in the fixture and accepts 120V, 240V or 277V, so the same part number can be specified for a 277V commercial branch circuit or a 120V residential one. It is hardwired and ceiling mounted, so you need a junction box at the location, not a plug.
3) What dimmer do I need for the Vornado LED pendant? Will a standard wall dimmer work?
It dims on an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer only. A standard incandescent or forward-phase dimmer will flicker or buzz and may not drop the output smoothly, so spec an ELV-compatible control on that circuit. On a multi-fixture run, keep the whole group on the one ELV dimmer.
4) Does the Vornado pendant meet California Title 24 for a residential job?
Yes. The Vornado mini pendant is listed as both Title 24 compliant and Title 20 compliant, and it is ETL and cETL certified for use in the US and Canada. It is not Energy Star rated, so if your rebate program requires Energy Star specifically, this fixture will not satisfy it.
5) How bright is the 7.44 inch Vornado mini pendant, and how many would I need over a kitchen island?
Each one puts out 1350 lumens at 14.2 watts in a 3000K warm white, with a flood distribution rather than a tight spot. That is accent-to-task level from a single head, so most islands get two or three spaced along the run rather than one. The 7.44 inch diameter body keeps sightlines open across a counter.
6) Can the LED be replaced in the Vornado pendant when it fails?
No. The light source is an integrated LED, factory installed with no lamp base or socket, so there is nothing to relamp. It is rated for 54,000 average hours, which is why it is sold as a maintenance-free head; when the LED or driver reaches end of life the fixture is replaced. For a property manager who wants to swap lamps in-house, a socketed pendant is the better call.
7) How big is the ceiling canopy on the Vornado pendant, and will it cover my existing octagon box?
The backplate measures 6.5 inches by 6.5 inches, which covers a standard 4 inch octagon or round ceiling box with room to spare. It mounts to the ceiling and conceals the driver inside the fixture, so no remote driver or extra enclosure is needed above the plane.
8) Is the diffuser on the Vornado pendant glass? I need something that will not break in a rental unit.
It is not glass. The shade is a silicone diffuser on an aluminum body, so it will not shatter if a tenant knocks it, which is part of why it suits rental and multi-family work. The silicone also diffuses the LED evenly rather than showing hot spots.
9) Is the WAC Vornado pendant ADA compliant for a commercial space?
It is listed ADA compliant. Keep in mind that a suspended pendant is governed by mounting height and protruding object clearance on the job, so hang it clear of circulation paths. The cable suspension adjusts from 14 inches down to 137 inches, which gives you room to keep it above head height in a corridor or lobby.
10) What finishes does the Vornado 7.44 inch mini pendant come in?
Two: Black (PD-84907-BK) and Chrome (PD-84907-CH). Both are the same aluminum body with a silicone diffuser, so the only difference is the finish. If you are matching other hardware in a hospitality or multi-family corridor, chrome reads closer to polished trim, black to matte and bronze-era schemes.
