WAC Lighting WAC-PD-97218 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Cochere pendant be installed on a sloped or vaulted ceiling?
Yes. The Cochere is sloped ceiling compatible, hung by rod from a ceiling mount with a spin-on round canopy that conceals the driver. The canopy backplate is 5.88 inches across, so check that your existing ceiling box opening and any patch work fall within that footprint.
2) Will the Cochere LED pendant work on a dimmer, and what kind do I need?
It dims on an electronic low voltage (ELV) or TRIAC dimmer. A standard incandescent/magnetic low voltage dimmer is the wrong choice here and will usually give you flicker or a dead band at the bottom of the range. The onboard 120V driver is concealed in the canopy, so there is no remote driver to find a home for.
3) Can I hang this pendant on a covered porch or in a bathroom?
The Cochere is damp location listed and IP44 rated, which covers a covered porch, a porte cochere, a screened lanai, or a bathroom outside the shower spray zone. It is not wet location rated, so keep it out of direct rain and off uncovered exterior ceilings.
4) Does the WAC Cochere pendant meet California Title 24 for a residential lighting permit?
Yes, it is both Title 24 and Title 20 compliant, which is what inspectors in California look for on hardwired residential luminaires. It is not Energy Star certified, so if a rebate program specifically requires Energy Star, this one will not qualify for it.
5) Do I ever have to change a bulb in the Cochere pendant, and what color light does it give?
There is no lamp to replace. The Cochere uses an integrated LED driven by an onboard driver, rated at 50,000 hours, drawing 15 watts at 120V. Light output is 3000K warm white through an etched acrylic diffuser with a flood distribution, so you get general wash rather than a tight spot. For a property manager that means no relamping cycle, but the whole fixture is the serviceable unit at end of life.
6) Is the Cochere pendant hardwired or does it plug in?
Hardwired only, at 120V, to a ceiling outlet box. There is no cord and plug and no swag option, so an electrician or a licensed contractor is doing this install. The driver sits inside the spin-on canopy, so all you need at the box is line, neutral and ground.
7) What is the Cochere pendant actually made of, and what does the finish look like?
The body is spun metal with a steel base construction, finished in black outside with a gold painted interior, and the overall look reads as aged brass. The diffuser is etched acrylic rather than glass, which is worth knowing for a high-traffic hospitality or multi-family space since acrylic will not shatter if something hits it.
8) Is the WAC Cochere pendant ADA compliant for a commercial corridor?
It is listed as ADA compliant. In practice a hanging pendant still has to clear the 80 inch headroom rule in a circulation path, so set your rod length accordingly; with the supplied 6 and 12 inch rods plus the 8 inch tall body you have plenty of range to stay above that in a standard ceiling height.
