WAC Lighting WAC-FM-21720 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC Elektron FM-21720 be mounted on a wall as a sconce, or only on the ceiling?
Both. The 20 inch Elektron can go up flat to the ceiling, hang as a pendant on downrods, or mount on a wall as a sconce. Three 12 inch downrods and one 6 inch downrod ship with it, so overall height runs from 5.25 inches flush up to 49 inches suspended. It is not ADA compliant, so check your projection allowance before using it as a sconce in a corridor or egress path.
2) What dimmer works with the WAC FM-21720 LED flush mount?
It needs an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. On an ELV control it runs smooth and continuous from 100 percent down to 10 percent. A standard incandescent/forward-phase TRIAC dimmer is not what this driver is rated for, so spec ELV at the wall box.
3) Will the FM-21720 run on 277V for a commercial building?
Yes. The driver is universal input, 120V, 240V or 277V, so the same fixture works on residential 120V circuits and on 277V commercial lighting branch circuits. The driver sits in a 4 inch junction box behind the fixture, so make sure your box is a 4 inch and the driver has room.
4) Can I use the Elektron FM-21720 in a covered porch or a bathroom?
Damp location rated and IP44, so a covered porch, a soffit, or a bathroom ceiling outside the shower is fine. It is not wet rated, so do not use it where it takes direct rain or spray.
5) Does the FM-21720 meet California Title 24 for a residential install?
Yes. The Elektron FM-21720 is listed as Title 24 compliant and Title 20 compliant, which covers California residential lighting and appliance efficiency requirements. It is not Energy Star rated, so if your rebate program keys on Energy Star specifically this one will not qualify.
6) How much light does the 20 inch Elektron put out and how much power does it draw?
1680 lumens from 20 watts at 3000K, a warm white. The beam is flood, and the light comes from LEDs hidden in the edge of a white acrylic diffuser, so it reads as an even glowing disc rather than a hot spot. For a 20 inch fixture that is general ambient light for a bedroom, hall, or small office, not a task downlight.
7) Are the LEDs replaceable in the WAC Elektron semi-flush mount, or is the whole fixture disposable?
The LEDs are integrated, so there is no lamp to change and no socket. Light source is rated 50,000 average hours. For an MRO or property maintenance program that means no relamping in the service interval, but a failed LED board or driver is a fixture-level repair, not a bulb swap.
8) What finishes does the Elektron FM-21720 come in, and what are the part numbers?
Two finishes, both at 3000K: Brushed Aluminum is FM-21720-AL and Black is FM-21720-BK. The body is aluminum with a white acrylic diffuser, so the finish shows on the backplate and the rim. Custom color temperatures are available by special order if you need to match existing fixtures at another CCT.
9) My ceiling is higher than the included downrods reach. Can I drop the Elektron further?
Stock hardware gets you to 49 inches overall using the three 12 inch rods and the 6 inch rod that ship in the box. Additional downrods are available if you need to come down further from a high or sloped ceiling, so order them alongside the fixture rather than discovering the shortfall on the lift.
