WAC Lighting LHT-007-BK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the WAC HT-007 track head fit my existing H or J track?
No. The LHT-007 is built with an L-style track adapter and only mounts to L track. WAC does offer the HT-007 head in H, J/J2 and L configurations, so if your run is H or J track you need the matching version of that head instead. Order according to your track layout, since the adapter is not interchangeable once the head is built.
2) Does the HT-007 low voltage track head need a separate transformer?
No separate transformer. The 50W HT-007 has the transformer concealed inside the fixture, so it runs directly off standard 120V line-voltage track. Input is 120 VAC, 50/60Hz.
3) Can I put an LED MR16 lamp in the WAC HT-007 instead of halogen?
Yes. The built-in transformer has a 1W minimum load, which is what allows a low-wattage LED MR16 to fire reliably. The socket is a bi-pin ceramic GY5.3 for MR16, and it accepts either LED or halogen. A factory version with the LED MR16 pre-installed is sold as HT-007LED; on the standard HT-007 no lamp is included.
4) What dimmer do I need for a WAC HT-007 track head?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. With one, the head dims smoothly and continuously down to about 10 percent (the spec sheet lists ELV dimming as 100-15%). A standard incandescent/forward-phase dimmer is not the right control for this fixture because the dimming is being done ahead of an internal electronic transformer.
5) Can I use the HT-007 track head outdoors or in a covered parking garage?
No. It is UL and cUL Listed for dry locations only and is an interior fixture. Anywhere exposed to weather, washdown, or condensation needs a damp- or wet-location rated head instead.
6) What do I have to order separately with the HT-007 besides the head itself?
The MR16 lamp is not included, so specify an MR16 LED or halogen with a GY5.3 bi-pin base at or below 50W. A clear lens does come with the head. If you want tight beam control or shuttering, the framing projector is an accessory ordered separately. Track and power feed are also separate; the head is not a complete system on its own.
7) How much clearance do I need below the track for this head, and how far can it aim?
The HT-007 head measures 6.5 inches high, 4.25 inches long and 2.25 inches wide/diameter, so allow at least that much drop below the track line. Aiming is on a swivel yoke with 350 degrees of horizontal rotation and 90 degrees of vertical tilt, which is enough to go from straight down to a wall wash on a perimeter run.
8) What finishes does the WAC LHT-007 L-track head come in?
Three: black (LHT-007-BK), brushed nickel (LHT-007-BN) and white (LHT-007-WT). For a retail or multi-unit job where heads are being added to existing runs, white and black are the usual matches to painted ceilings and black track, and the part number suffix is what you quote to keep a fleet consistent.
9) Is the WAC HT-007 track head Title 24 or Energy Star compliant for a California job?
It is CEC listed, but it is not Title 24 compliant and not Energy Star qualified. On a California project with high-efficacy lighting requirements, this head will not satisfy them on its own.
10) Is the HT-007 durable enough for retail or hospitality use rather than residential?
The body is die-cast aluminum with a polycarbonate transformer case and track adapter, and WAC positions the HT-007 for residential, retail, commercial and hospitality interiors. The ceramic bi-pin socket is the part that takes the heat from a halogen MR16; going LED lowers that load and the 1W minimum means a low-wattage LED still works on the internal transformer.
