WAC Lighting LHT-802-BK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the WAC HT-802 track head fit my existing H or J track?
No. The HT-802 as configured here is the L track version, so it only snaps into WAC L track. The HT-802 body is built in H, J/J2, and L adapter configurations, so if your run is H or J/J2 track you need to order that adapter version instead. Check the track layout you already have before ordering, because the adapter is not field-swappable between styles.
2) Is the HT-802 a line voltage or low voltage head, and does it need a separate transformer?
It's a low voltage MR16 head with the transformer concealed inside the fixture, so no remote transformer is needed. It runs off standard 120V track, 120 VAC 50/60Hz input, and steps down internally to drive the lamp.
3) Can I put an LED MR16 in the HT-802 instead of a halogen?
Yes. The built-in transformer has a 1W minimum load, which is what allows a low wattage LED MR16 to drive it, and the socket is a bi-pin ceramic GY5.3 for MR16 lamps. It accepts either LED or halogen MR16. A version with the LED MR16 pre-installed is sold as the HT-802LED; on the non-LED head no lamp is included.
4) What dimmer do I need for a WAC low voltage track head like the HT-802?
An electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. With an ELV dimmer the head dims smooth and continuous down to 10 percent, with a stated ELV dimming range of 100-15%. A standard incandescent/forward-phase wall dimmer is not the right control for this fixture.
5) Can the HT-802 track head be used in a covered exterior walkway or a bathroom?
No. It's UL and cUL Listed for dry locations only, and rated for indoor use. Covered exteriors, walkways, or wet/damp bath areas need a damp- or wet-location listed head instead.
6) How far can I aim this track head at artwork or a display wall?
The swivel yoke gives 350 degrees of horizontal rotation and 90 degrees of vertical tilt, so you can rotate almost a full circle on the track and drop from straight down to horizontal. That's enough range to graze a wall of merchandise or cross-aim two heads at one piece.
7) How much room does the HT-802 need below the ceiling?
Plan on about 5-1/2 inches of fixture height, with a maximum height of 6 inches once it's aimed, and roughly 4.5 inches wide by 2 inches deep with a 2.39 inch head diameter. In low ceiling retail or a gallery with tight sightlines, that projection is what decides whether the head sits above or inside the field of view.
8) Does the HT-802 meet California Title 24 and CEC requirements?
Yes on both counts. The HT-802 head is listed as Title 24 compliant and CEC listed, and it is also noted as ADA compliant. It is not Energy Star rated.
9) What finishes does the HT-802 come in for matching heads already installed in a building?
Three finishes: black (LHT-802-BK), brushed nickel (LHT-802-BN), and white (LHT-802-WT). For a property standardizing across retail bays or lobbies, order by that suffix to keep replacement heads matching the existing run.
10) What is the maximum lamp wattage I can put in the HT-802?
This head is the 50W version, so size the MR16 to 50W maximum. The HT-802 family is built in 50W and 75W ratings, and going above the head's rating overloads the internal transformer. Going down is fine, since the 1W minimum load lets a low-draw LED MR16 operate.
11) Is this head durable enough for a retail or hospitality space that runs long hours?
The housing is die-cast aluminum with a mesh back vent for heat dissipation; only the transformer case and track adapter are polycarbonate. That construction is intended for residential, retail, commercial, and hospitality use, and the vented back is what keeps the built-in transformer and halogen MR16 heat under control in a continuously lit display.
12) Does the HT-802 come with a lens?
A clear glass lens is included on the halogen version. If you order the pre-lamped LED version, the clear lens is a halogen-version item only, so do not plan a job around getting one with an LED head.
