WAC Lighting WAC-5011-CC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the WAC 5011-CC color changing accent light need a separate transformer?
Yes. The 5011-CC is a 12V fixture and requires a magnetic or electronic power supply, sold separately. Input range is 9-15V AC, so the fixture tolerates the voltage drop you get on a long landscape run. It is a hardwired fixture, not plug-in.
2) What comes in the box with the WAC 5011-CC accent light, and what do I still have to buy?
Each fixture ships with a detachable shroud, a 9 inch mounting spike, a 36 inch lead wire, and two gel filled direct burial wire nuts. The LED is integrated, so there is no lamp to buy. What you supply separately is the 12V magnetic or electronic power supply, low voltage cable, and any extra mounting or glare control accessories.
3) Which finish of the WAC color changing accent light should I use near the ocean?
Go with the Bronzed Brass version, 5011-CCBBR. It is solid brass coated in bronze and is the one WAC recommends for coastal or marine environments. The Bronze version, 5011-CCBZ, is cast k-alloy aluminum and is the choice for inland installs.
4) Can the WAC 5011-CC be dimmed from a wall dimmer, or only the app?
Two ways. Brightness and color are controlled over Bluetooth through the free WAC Landscape Lighting app on iOS or Android, and the fixture also dims smoothly on a magnetic low voltage (MLV) dimmer upstream of the transformer. There is no 0-10V or TRIAC line voltage dimming spec here, so plan on app control or MLV.
5) Is the WAC 5011-CC accent light rated for direct burial spike mounting in wet ground and sprinkler spray?
It is factory sealed and water tight at IP66, which covers high pressure water jets, and it carries a Wet location rating with UL and cUL 1838 listing for low voltage landscape lighting. The included direct burial gel filled wire nuts are intended for buried splices at the spike.
6) How much space does the WAC 5011-CC accent light take up in a planting bed?
The fixture body measures 6.58 x 5.88 x 2.88 inches, and the included mounting spike adds 9 inches below it into the soil. The 36 inch lead wire sets how far the fixture can sit from your buried splice, so place the wire nut connection within three feet.
7) Will the WAC 5011-CC work with other WAC color changing landscape lights on the same app?
Yes. The app controls brightness and color for all WAC color changing compatible landscape fixtures together, so you can run this accent light alongside the matching RGBW flood and well lights in the same suite from one phone or tablet.
8) Does the WAC color changing accent light meet California Title 24 for outdoor residential lighting?
Title 24 compliant, yes, and it is also listed as ADA compliant. It is not Energy Star rated. Rated life is 50,000 hours on an integrated LED, so there is no relamping over the service life.
9) Can I aim the WAC 5011-CC straight down or invert it under a soffit?
It is not a reversible mounting fixture. The 5011-CC is built as a spike mounted uplight with a detachable shroud for glare control; other mounting options come from accessories sold separately rather than from flipping the housing.
