LED Hardscape strip lights are the ideal low profile lighting solution to graze walls, decks and patios, handrails, bench seats, fences or stone work in any landscape. Hardscape strips are available in 3in, 6in, 12in, and 18in sizes and can conveniently adapt into an existing 12V landscape lighting system. Includes a translucent diffuser that eliminates hotspots for even light projection. Mounting options include a capstone bracket, as well as aiming clips. 1) Can the WAC 7062 hardscape strip light run off my existing 12V landscape lighting system?
Yes. The 6 inch Hardscape strip is a 12V fixture with an input range of 9-15V AC, so it taps into an existing low voltage landscape run. It is hardwired, not plug-in, and a magnetic or electronic 12V power supply is required. WAC's stainless steel outdoor transformers are the recommended match: 9075-TRN-SS (75W), 9150-TRN-SS (150W), 9300-TRN-SS (300W) and 9600-TRN-SS (600W). Two Ideal direct burial wire nuts come in the box for the splice.
2) What mounting hardware is included with the WAC 6 inch hardscape light, and can I mount it under a capstone?
A stainless steel capstone bracket, aiming clips and a hardware pack come with the fixture, so under-cap mounting on a seat wall or pillar is covered out of the box. For handrails, bench seats, deck fascia, steps and fences it mounts with two screws. Mounting is reversible, so the light can be aimed either direction off the same bracket.
3) How much space do I need under a capstone for the WAC 7062 hardscape strip?
The fixture body measures 6 inches long, 3.13 inches wide and 1 inch high, with a 0.58 inch backplate height. That 1 inch profile is what has to clear the mortar joint or the gap between the cap and the wall course, so check the reveal before you set stone. Companion sizes in the same Hardscape line run 3, 12 and 18 inches if the 6 inch run length does not suit the layout.
4) Is the WAC 7062 hardscape light rated to sit in the weather year round?
It is an outdoor, wet location fixture, factory sealed and water tight with an IP66 rating, which covers high pressure water jets as well as rain and sprinkler spray. Certifications listed are UL, cUL and IP66, to the UL and cUL 1838 low voltage landscape standard. The housing is a k-alloy aluminum casting with a frosted glass lens.
5) Can I switch the WAC 7062 between 2700K and 3000K after it is installed?
Yes. Every 7062 ordered carries 27/30 in the part number, which means an integral switch toggles the fixture between 2700K and 3000K dual CCT. Those models also have a quick release feature so the LED module can be pulled and replaced without tearing out the stonework. Useful when you are matching a 6 inch strip to warmer or cooler fixtures already on the property.
6) How much wire comes on the WAC 7062 strip light, and will it reach my transformer run?
Each 6 inch Hardscape strip ships with 36 inches of low voltage lead wire. That is enough to get from the fixture to a nearby splice point under a capstone or behind a riser, but not enough to reach a transformer on its own. Plan the home run in your main landscape cable and splice at the fixture using the two direct burial nuts included.
7) What dimmer works with the WAC Hardscape 12V strip lights?
Use a magnetic low voltage (MLV) dimmer on the transformer's line side. With an MLV dimmer the strip dims smoothly and continuously down to 10 percent. An ELV or standard incandescent dimmer is not the specified control here.
8) Does the WAC Hardscape strip light meet Title 24 for a California job?
Yes, the Hardscape 12V strip is listed as Title 24 compliant and ADA compliant, which matters on stair and ramp lighting where a projecting fixture would be a problem. It is not Energy Star rated.
9) What finishes does the WAC 6 inch Hardscape strip light come in?
