LED Hardscape strip lights are the ideal low profile lighting solution to graze walls, decks and patios, handrails, bench seats, fences or stone work in any landscape. Hardscape strips are available in 3in, 6in, 12in, and 18in sizes and can conveniently adapt into an existing 12V landscape lighting system. Includes a translucent diffuser that eliminates hotspots for even light projection. Mounting options include a capstone bracket, as well as aiming clips. 1) Can I add the WAC 7122 hardscape strip light to an existing 12V landscape lighting system?
Yes. The 6 inch WAC Hardscape strip runs on 12V and ties into an existing low voltage landscape run. It needs a magnetic or electronic 12V power supply; WAC's recommended stainless steel outdoor transformers are the 9075-TRN-SS (75W), 9150-TRN-SS (150W), 9300-TRN-SS (300W) and 9600-TRN-SS (600W). It is a hardwired fixture, and it ships with 36 inches of low voltage wire plus two Ideal direct burial nuts for the splice.
2) How much room do I need to recess or tuck the 7122 hardscape light under a capstone?
The fixture body measures 6 inches long, 3.13 inches wide and 1 inch high, with a 0.58 inch backplate height. That 1 inch profile is what lets it sit under a cap block, a bench nose or a stair tread without showing the source. Mounting is two screws, so you only need a flat surface and a path for the wire.
3) Do I have to pick 2700K or 3000K when I order the WAC 7122?
No, you get both. The 27/30 in the part number means there's an integral switch on the fixture that toggles between 2700K and 3000K, so you can set the color on site and match it to the rest of the property. All five finishes ship this way: Bronzed Brass, Black, Bronze, Graphite and Sand.
4) Will the 7122 hardscape light survive being washed down or sitting in a wet stone wall?
It is factory sealed and water tight to IP66, which covers high pressure water jets, and it carries a wet location rating with UL and cUL listing. The housing is cast k-alloy aluminum and the lens is frosted glass. It is rated for outdoor use, so pressure washing a patio or a sprinkler hitting the wall is not a problem.
5) Can I dim these hardscape strips, and what dimmer do I use?
Yes, but only on the magnetic low voltage side. The 7122 dims smooth and continuous down to 10 percent with a magnetic low voltage (MLV) dimmer. Pair it with an MLV dimmer ahead of the transformer; an ELV or standard incandescent dimmer is not the right control for this fixture.
6) What mounting hardware comes with the WAC 6 inch hardscape strip light?
Each fixture ships complete: the fixture itself with replaceable LED, a stainless steel capstone bracket, a hardware pack, 36 inches of wire and two Ideal direct burial wire nuts. Aiming clips are part of the mounting options as well, and the mounting is reversible. The only thing you supply is the 12V transformer and the run of landscape cable.
7) How many 6 inch hardscape lights can I run off one WAC landscape transformer?
Size it by wattage. Each 7122 draws 3.1W and up to 5.1VA, so load your transformer on the VA figure plus headroom for wire loss. On the 75W 9075-TRN-SS that is roughly a dozen fixtures at full load; the 150W, 300W and 600W stainless units scale from there. Input range is 9 to 15V AC, which gives you some tolerance for voltage drop at the end of a long run.
8) Will this hardscape strip light throw hot spots on a stone wall?
No. A translucent diffuser behind a frosted glass lens spreads the output so you get an even graze rather than visible LED dots on the stone or deck face. Output is 260 lumens at 90 CRI from a single integrated LED, which reads accurately on natural stone and wood tones.
9) If an LED fails years from now, do I have to pull the whole fixture out of the wall?
No. The 27/30 dual CCT models have a quick release feature, and the LED module is listed as replaceable, so the light engine comes out for service without disturbing the capstone bracket or the buried splice. That matters on a hardscape install where the fixture is under mortared cap stone.
10) Do I need the 6 inch hardscape strip or a different length?
