WAC Lighting WAC-FM-306-RFK-DI – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the WAC Lighting FM-306-RFK retrofit kit actually do, and which fixture does it work with?
The FM-306-RFK converts the 6 inch junction box version of the WAC Disc flush mount into a recessed retrofit light. It is an accessory only, not a fixture, and it is made for use with part number FM-306-930JB. The kit includes an A19 socket set so the Disc screws into the existing lamp socket with no wiring.
2) Will this WAC Disc retrofit kit fit my existing 5 inch recessed can?
Yes. The Disc 6 inch retrofit kit is designed to drop into an existing 4, 5 or 6 inch recessed housing. The kit itself measures 6 by 6 inches with a 0.5 inch height, so the 6 inch trim covers the opening on the smaller cans.
3) Can the WAC Disc with this retrofit kit be used in a covered porch or bathroom shower ceiling?
The Disc is Wet Location rated and ETL and cETL IP65 Listed, and it is suited to indoor or outdoor use. That covers damp and wet spots like baths and covered exteriors, provided the recessed housing it goes into is itself rated for that location.
4) Is the FM-306-RFK kit included when I buy the WAC Disc FM-306-930JB?
No. Model FM-306-930JB ships without the A19 socket or retrofit kit, so if you plan to put that Disc into an existing recessed can you have to order the FM-306-RFK separately. Ordered as the JB model alone, it mounts to a junction box on a ceiling or wall with no transformer.
5) Do I need an electrician to install the WAC FM-306-RFK, or is it a no-wire install?
No wiring is needed at the kit. The retrofit kit comes with an A19 socket set that threads into the existing recessed can's lamp socket, so the Disc is powered through the lamp holder. The Disc itself is a hardwired fixture family, but with this kit the existing can supplies the connection.
6) Does the WAC Disc retrofit assembly meet California Title 24 and ADA requirements for a multi-family or institutional job?
The Disc retrofit kit is listed as Title 24 compliant, CEC listed, and ADA compliant, which is what specifiers in California and in accessibility-governed spaces normally need to see. It is not Energy Star rated.
7) What is the WAC Disc retrofit kit made of, and will it hold up in an exterior soffit?
Aluminum base construction, paired with the IP65 wet location listing. That combination is what makes it usable in exterior soffits and other exposed ceiling locations rather than dry interior only.
8) Why choose the Disc flush mount over a standard recessed trim with a lamp socket?
The Disc uses multiple high-powered LEDs behind an acrylic diffuser, so the lit surface is even and you do not get the socket shadow that shows through a conventional single-lamp flush mount. With the FM-306-RFK it also gives you one fixture that can be used as a junction box flush mount or dropped into an existing can, instead of buying two different products.
