1) Will the WAC Lighting HT-160 Range track head fit my existing H or J track?
Not as ordered here. The LHT-160L is built with an L-style track adapter, so it only mounts to L track. WAC offers the HT-160 Range head in H, J/J2, and L track configurations, so if your run is H or J/J2 track you need to order that version instead. Check the track layout spec before ordering, because the adapter is not interchangeable on the fixture.
2) Does the HT-160 low voltage track head come with a lamp?
No lamp is included on this version. It takes an MR16 lamp with a GY5.3 bi-pin base, LED or halogen, bought separately. WAC also builds the same head with a pre-installed LED MR16 as the HT-160LED if you would rather not source lamps. A clear lens is included with the halogen version.
3) Can I run an LED MR16 in this low voltage head, or will the transformer not see the load?
LED works. The transformer built into the HT-160 Range head has a 1W minimum load, which is low enough for an LED MR16 to turn on reliably. That 1W floor is the spec that matters, since many low voltage magnetic transformers will not fire a 5W to 7W LED lamp.
4) Can I use this WAC track head in a covered exterior walkway or a wet-area display?
No. The HT-160 Range head is UL and cUL Listed for dry locations and is an indoor fixture only. Damp or wet exposure, including open canopies and bathrooms with direct spray, calls for a damp or wet rated head instead.
5) Do I need a separate low voltage transformer for this track head?
No remote transformer is required. The transformer is concealed inside the fixture in a polycarbonate case, so the head runs straight off standard 120V track. That keeps the ceiling clean and means no separate magnetic transformer to find space for.
6) How far does the HT-160 head hang below the ceiling, and how much will it aim?
Overall height is about 4 inches (listed at 4.06 inches max height), which keeps it tight to the ceiling for a low voltage spot. Aiming is 350 degrees of horizontal rotation and 90 degrees of vertical tilt on a swivel yoke, so you can take it from straight down to wall-wash on a retail or kiosk display.
7) Does this track head meet California Title 24 for a retail job?
Yes. The HT-160 Range low voltage head is listed as Title 24 compliant and CEC listed, which is what a California retail or hospitality submittal needs. It is also flagged ADA compliant. It is not Energy Star rated.
8) Is this head rated for 50W or 75W lamps?
The HT-160 Range platform is offered at 50W and 75W, and this is the 75W L-track version. That is the maximum lamp wattage, so a 35W or 50W halogen MR16, or a far lower wattage LED MR16, all run fine under it.
9) What finishes does the WAC HT-160 Range low voltage head come in?
Two finishes, black (LHT-160L-BK) and white (LHT-160L-WT). White tends to disappear against a white ceiling and white track, black reads as a deliberate instrument on a dark ceiling or in retail. Both are die-cast aluminum housings.
10) How does the fixture handle heat with a halogen MR16 in a closed display case ceiling?
The housing uses a mesh back vent for heat dissipation and a bi-pin ceramic socket, which is what lets it carry a halogen MR16 in a 4 inch tall body. If the application is enclosed or heat sensitive, running an LED MR16 is the better move, and the 1W minimum load transformer supports that.
