1) Will the WAC LHT-160 track head fit my existing track, or do I need to match the track type?
Track type has to match. The LHT-160 is built with an L track adapter, so it drops onto L style track only. The Range HT-160 head is also made in H and J/J2 adapter versions, so order the adapter that matches the track already in the ceiling. Getting this wrong is the most common return on track heads, since the head body is identical and only the adapter differs.
2) What lamp does the WAC Range HT-160 low voltage track head take, and does it come with one?
It takes an MR16 lamp with a GY5.3 bi-pin base, and no lamp is included. Either an MR16 LED or a halogen lamp works in it. The built-in transformer has a 1W minimum load, which is what lets a low wattage LED MR16 run in a fixture rated to 50W, so you are not forced into halogen to make the transformer see a load.
3) Can I put the LHT-160 track head on a dimmer circuit?
Yes, but it needs an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The magnetic or standard incandescent dimmers already on a lot of older retail circuits will not control it correctly. On an ELV dimmer the head dims smoothly down to 10 percent. Spec the dimmer at the same time you spec the heads.
4) Do I need a separate low voltage transformer for the WAC Range track head?
No separate transformer or remote power supply is needed. The transformer is concealed inside the fixture, in a polycarbonate case, and the head runs directly off 120V track at 120 VAC, 50/60Hz. That is the practical difference from low voltage systems that need a remote magnetic transformer fed from a separate junction: with this head, one run of standard 120V track powers everything.
5) How much does the WAC LHT-160 head hang down below the ceiling?
About 4 inches. The stated max height is 4.06 inches with the fixture at 4.5 inches overall and a 2.13 inch diameter head. For a low ceiling, a corridor, or a retail space where you do not want the fixture reading as a pendant, that close-to-ceiling profile is the reason to pick this one over a taller gimbal or a cylinder head.
6) How far can the Range HT-160 track head be aimed for a retail display or artwork?
350 degrees of horizontal rotation and 90 degrees of vertical tilt, on a swivel yoke. That covers straight down to horizontal, so you can wall-wash merchandise, hit a kiosk from a track run that is not centered over it, or re-aim a whole run after a floor reset without moving heads on the track.
7) Is the WAC LHT-160 track head rated for a covered exterior walkway or a bathroom?
No. It is UL and cUL Listed for dry locations, indoor only, so a covered exterior soffit, an open breezeway, or a shower area is out of scope. Keep it to conditioned interior space: retail floors, hospitality lobbies, offices, residential rooms.
8) Does the WAC Range HT-160 head meet California Title 24?
It is listed Title 24 compliant and CEC listed, which is what a California specifier or inspector will ask for on a commercial lighting permit. It also carries an ADA compliant designation. Energy Star does not apply to this fixture.
9) If I want an LED track head that ships ready to go, is there a version of the Range HT-160 with the lamp already in it?
Yes, the HT-160LED comes with a pre-installed LED MR16. The plain HT-160 ships without a lamp, so you supply the MR16 yourself. For a property manager standardizing a lot of heads across a building, the pre-lamped version removes a second line item and guarantees every head gets the same lamp; for a contractor matching an existing color temperature on a partial retrofit, buying the head bare and picking the MR16 separately is usually the better move.
