WAC Lighting LHT-809L-BK – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the WAC HT-809 track head fit my existing H or J track, or is it L track only?
The LHT-809L is built with an L track adapter, so it only mounts on WAC L-series track. The HT-809 head itself is offered in H, J/J2 and L configurations, so if your run is H or J/J2 track you need to order that version instead. Order according to your track layout.
2) Does the WAC HT-809 low voltage track head need a separate transformer?
No separate transformer. The HT-809 has the transformer concealed inside the fixture, so it drops straight onto 120V track. Input is 120 VAC, 50/60Hz.
3) Can I run an LED MR16 in the HT-809 instead of halogen, and does it dim?
Yes. The built-in transformer has a 1W minimum load, which is what lets a low-wattage LED MR16 operate on it rather than only a halogen lamp. It dims smoothly and continuously down to 10 percent when wired to an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The socket is a bi-pin ceramic GY5.3 for MR16 lamps.
4) Is a bulb included with the WAC LHT-809L track head?
No lamp in the box. The LHT-809L takes an MR16 LED or halogen lamp with a GY5.3 bi-pin base, sold separately. If you want the head to arrive with the lamp already fitted, the pre-lamped LED version is the HT-809LED.
5) Can the WAC HT-809 track head be used in a covered exterior walkway or a bathroom?
No. It is UL and cUL Listed for dry locations only and rated indoor, so keep it out of exterior soffits, covered patios and wet or damp areas such as showers. For those openings you need a damp or wet location rated head.
6) How far can the HT-809 head be aimed for retail accent lighting?
The swivel yoke gives 350 degrees of horizontal rotation and 90 degrees of vertical tilt, so a single head can go from straight down to full wall wash on artwork or merchandise. Aiming is tool-free at the yoke.
7) Does the HT-809 track head meet California Title 24?
Yes, the HT-809 is listed Title 24 compliant and CEC listed, which matters on California commercial and multi-family permit sets. It is also flagged ADA compliant. It is not Energy Star rated.
8) How much room does the HT-809 head take up below the track?
Figure roughly 6 inches of height, 4.5 inches of width and 3 inches of length, with a 2.39 inch diameter housing. Worth checking against low ceilings or display cases where a head hanging 6 inches down could sit in someone's sightline.
9) What finishes does the WAC HT-809 L track head come in, so I can match the rest of my track run?
Three finishes: Black (LHT-809L-BK), Brushed Nickel (LHT-809L-BN) and White (LHT-809L-WT). Match the head to the track color you already have on the ceiling rather than the trim in the room.
10) What wattage lamp can I put in the HT-809 track head?
The HT-809 is offered in 50W and 75W builds; the LHT-809L is the 75W L track head. Do not exceed the head's rated wattage with a halogen MR16, and on the low end the 1W minimum load means even a small LED MR16 will start and dim properly.
11) Is the HT-809 track head durable enough for a retail or hospitality space that gets re-aimed often?
The head body is die-cast aluminum with a mesh back vent for heat dissipation; the transformer case and track adapter are polycarbonate. The aluminum yoke and housing hold up to repeated aiming better than stamped or plastic-bodied heads, which is why it is used in retail, commercial and hospitality as well as residential.
12) Does the HT-809 come with a lens, and is it on the LED version too?
A clear glass lens is included, but only on the halogen version. If you order the pre-lamped LED head, do not expect the lens in the carton.
