Low Voltage track fixture offered in a wide variety of styles and finishes for a multitude of lighting applications in residential, retail, commercial and hospitality environments. 1) Will the WAC HT-808 track head fit my existing H or J track, or is it L track only?
The HT-808L is built with an L track adapter and will only mount to L style track. WAC offers the same HT-808 head in H and J/J2 configurations, so you have to order the version matching the track already on the ceiling. Check the adapter shape on an existing head before ordering a replacement.
2) Does the HT-808 low voltage track head need a separate transformer?
No separate transformer. The transformer is concealed inside the fixture and runs off standard 120V track, so nothing extra gets mounted above the ceiling or in the track run.
3) What lamp do I order with the WAC HT-808 track head?
An MR16 lamp with a GY5.3 bi-pin base, either LED or halogen. No bulb ships with the non-LED head, so add lamps to the order. WAC also builds an HT-808LED version with the LED MR16 already installed if you would rather not source lamps separately.
4) Can I run LED MR16 lamps on this low voltage head, or will the transformer drop out at low load?
LED works. The built-in transformer has a 1W minimum load, which is low enough to carry a single LED MR16 without flicker or dropout. That is the spec to look at when you are converting an older halogen track run to LED heads.
5) What dimmer do I need for WAC HT-808 track heads?
An electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. With one, the head dims smoothly down to 10 percent. A standard incandescent or MLV dimmer is the wrong control for this fixture, so spec ELV on the wall box when you are laying out the circuit.
6) Is the HT-808 track head approved for a covered exterior walkway or a bathroom?
No. It is UL and cUL Listed for dry locations only and rated indoor. Keep it out of damp or wet spots, canopies, and unconditioned areas; pick a damp or wet location rated head for those.
7) How far can the HT-808 head aim for retail accent lighting?
350 degrees of horizontal rotation and 90 degrees of vertical tilt, on a swivel yoke, so one run of track can wash a wall or pick out merchandise straight down. The lamp sits recessed behind a baffle to cut glare for anyone standing under it.
8) Will WAC HT-808 heads pass a California Title 24 inspection?
Yes. The HT-808 is listed as Title 24 compliant and CEC listed, which is what the plan checker looks for on California jobs. It is not Energy Star rated.
9) How much does the HT-808 track head hang down and how much clearance does it need?
Figure roughly 6-1/2 inches of overall height with the head at a 2-3/4 inch diameter, 4.5 inches wide and 3 inches long, and a 6.25 inch maximum height. In a tight corridor or over a display case, aim the yoke before you settle on head spacing so the body does not sit in anyone's sight line.
10) What finishes does the WAC HT-808L come in for matching heads across a building?
Three finishes: black (LHT-808L-BK), dark bronze (LHT-808L-DB), and white (LHT-808L-WT). For a fleet of units or a multi-tenant retail space, standardizing on one of those three keeps later replacements an exact match.
11) Is the HT-808 head durable enough for commercial retail use, or is it a plastic residential fixture?
The head is die-cast aluminum with a polycarbonate transformer case and track adapter, and a bi-pin ceramic socket for the MR16. It is used in retail, commercial, and hospitality track runs as well as residential.
