1) Can the WAC Endurance brick light be retrofitted into an existing brick light opening, or is it new construction only?
Both. The Endurance LED Brick Light is built for integration into a new brick wall or vertical riser, and WAC includes instructions for retrofitting it into an existing brick light opening. Confirm your existing rough opening against the fixture's 9.5 inch height and 4 inch width before you cut anything.
2) Does this brick light need a remote LED driver or transformer?
No. It runs on 120V line voltage and wires direct, so there is no driver or low voltage transformer to locate. That is the main difference from a 12V landscape brick light, which has to be fed from a transformer. The LED engine is integrated and factory sealed, and it is a hardwired fixture, not plug-in.
3) Is this brick light rated for exposed outdoor walls and driving rain?
Yes, it is wet location rated and carries an IP66 rating, plus UL and cUL 1838 listing. IP66 covers dust ingress and high pressure water jets, so an exterior riser, stair wall, or grade level brick course is within its rating. It is listed for indoor use as well.
4) What dimmer do I need for the WAC Endurance LED brick light?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer; TRIAC is also supported. On an ELV dimmer it runs smooth and continuous from 100 percent down to 10 percent. A standard incandescent dimmer that is not ELV or TRIAC compatible is the usual cause of flicker or drop-out on this fixture.
5) Can these be installed sideways, or do they have to be vertical?
Either. The fixture can be mounted on a wall vertically or horizontally, so you can run it with the long 9.5 inch dimension upright in a riser or lay it flat along a brick course. The opal etched glass diffuser spreads light evenly in either orientation, so the beam does not change with how you set it.
6) What finishes does the WAC Endurance brick light come in, and can I match multiple buildings on one order?
Four architectural finishes, all in 3000K: Architectural Black (WL-5105-30-ABK), Architectural Bronze (WL-5105-30-ABZ), Architectural Graphite (WL-5105-30-AGH), and Architectural White (WL-5105-30-AWT). The housing is die-cast aluminum in every finish, so you can standardize one finish across a property and order by the finish suffix.
7) Is the LED replaceable, or is the whole brick light throwaway when it fails?
The high powered LED module is replaceable, which matters on a fixture set into masonry where pulling the housing means disturbing brick. Rated life is 80,000 hours, and the luminaire holds 70 percent or more of its initial output at the end of that life. The LED is included with the fixture, one module per unit.
8) Does this fixture meet ADA requirements for a corridor or stairwell wall?
It is listed as ADA compliant, and because it recesses into the wall rather than projecting off the face, it does not intrude into the required clear path. The backplate measures 4 inches. For institutional work, note it is not Energy Star certified and not Title 24 compliant, which matters on California projects with a Title 24 lighting requirement.
