WAC Lighting WAC-FM-4009 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the WAC Dice FM-4009 flush mount work on a pancake junction box?
Yes. The Dice FM-4009 runs on 120V AC LED technology with no separate driver or transformer, so it mounts directly to a pancake junction box. The backplate is 9 inches and the fixture projects 2.75 inches from the surface. It is hardwired, not plug-in.
2) Can the FM-4009 Dice be mounted on a wall as a sconce instead of the ceiling?
It installs either way. Mounted on a wall it works as a sconce, and in that orientation it is ADA compliant, which matters for corridors and other paths of travel where projection is limited. The 9 x 9 inch square face with 2.75 inch depth reads the same on wall or ceiling.
3) What kind of dimmer do I need for the WAC Dice LED flush mount?
An electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The integrated LED in the Dice FM-4009 dims smoothly on ELV control; a standard incandescent or TRIAC wall dimmer is not the right control for it. Spec the ELV dimmer at the same time you order the fixture so the install is not held up.
4) Can I use the FM-4009 in a bathroom over a shower or on a covered porch?
It carries a Damp location rating with IP44 ingress protection, so covered exterior ceilings, porch soffits, and bathroom ceilings outside the direct shower spray zone are fine. It is not a wet location fixture, so do not put it anywhere exposed to direct water or weather.
5) Is the WAC Dice square flush mount approved for closet installation?
Yes, the Dice FM-4009 is rated for installation in closets, which is where a lot of surface fixtures get rejected on inspection. It is also Energy Star rated and CEC Title 24 compliant, plus Title 20 listed, which covers the usual California compliance questions on multifamily and commercial work.
6) Is the Dice FM-4009 bright enough to be the only light in a 9x9 or small bathroom?
It puts out 2750 lumens from 27W with a flood distribution through etched thick pressed glass with an interior ceramic glaze, so output is diffuse and glare free rather than directional. For a small bath, closet, hall or entry that is enough as the single ambient source. In a larger room treat it as one of several.
7) What color temperatures and finishes does the 9 inch Dice flush mount come in?
Three orderable combinations: 2700K in Brushed Nickel (FM-4009-27-BN), 3000K in Brushed Nickel (FM-4009-30-BN), and 3000K in Chrome (FM-4009-30-CH). So if you want chrome, you are ordering 3000K. 277V, 240V, and custom CCT are special order through WAC.
8) Will the FM-4009 run on 277V in a commercial building?
Not as a standard order. The catalogued FM-4009 is a 120V fixture. WAC offers 277V and 240V versions, plus custom color temperatures, as special order items, so a 277V commercial circuit needs that special order rather than the stock part.
9) Is the WAC Dice FM-4009 ETL listed for commercial and institutional jobs?
It is ETL and cETL listed, so it is accepted for both US and Canadian installations, and carries IP44. Add Energy Star, Title 20, and Title 24 compliance and it clears the usual submittal checklist for multifamily, education, and hospitality specs.
10) What is the Dice FM-4009 actually made of, and will it hold up in a rental or hospitality corridor?
Aluminum housing with a 3/4 inch thick pressed glass diffuser, etched and ceramic-glazed on the interior. The thick-walled glass is the durable part of this design, not a thin acrylic lens, and the damp rating plus IP44 means it tolerates humidity in corridors, baths, and laundry areas.
