Modern Forms FR-W1803-44L-MB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Modern Forms Axis fan be installed on a covered patio or porch?
Yes. The Axis carries a Wet location rating and is cETL Wet Location Listed for indoor or outdoor use, with safety listings from ETL, cETL, UL, cUL and CSA. The ABS blades and weather-resistant finishes hold up in covered exterior spaces like porches and patios. Wet rated means it tolerates direct water exposure, so a covered patio is well within what it is listed for.
2) Will the Axis smart fan work on a sloped ceiling?
Out of the box the Axis mounts on slopes up to 30 degrees. For a steeper pitch, 32 to 45 degrees, you need the XF-SCK Slope Ceiling Kit, which is ordered separately. On any sloped install plan for a longer downrod than the 4.5 inch rod included so the blades clear the ceiling.
3) What size room does a 44-inch Axis ceiling fan cover, and when should I step up to the 52-inch?
The 44 inch blade span suits medium kitchens, bedrooms and living rooms. The Axis is also built in a 52 inch model (FR-W1803-52) for larger rooms and wider covered patios where you need the air moved further from center. Both run the same silent DC motor with 6 speeds and airflow up to 4587 CFM on the 44 inch version.
4) Do I need to buy a remote or wall control separately for the Modern Forms Axis?
A battery-operated Bluetooth remote with a wall cradle ships in the box (Part No. F-RCBT-WT), so the fan is controllable on arrival with no wall control needed. If the job calls for a hardwired wall control, the Bluetooth wall control F-WCBT-WT is sold separately and can be configured for 3-way or 4-way switching. No wall control is included.
5) What color temperature should I order on the Axis, and can I change it later?
Color temperature is fixed at the time of order: 2700K, 3000K or 3500K. There is no tunable white option, so pick 2700K for warm residential spaces, 3000K as a neutral-warm middle, and 3500K where you want a cleaner light closer to a kitchen or commercial feel. The LED module puts out 1600 lumens at CRI 90 with smooth continuous dimming in all three.
6) Which smart home systems does the Axis fan integrate with?
Control runs over Bluetooth through the Modern Forms app, with integration for Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Control4 and Josh AI. It also supports Android or iOS wall-mounted tablet control over Wi-Fi, which is what most integrators use for a fixed in-room control surface.
7) Can the light on the Axis be turned off or hidden if I only want the fan?
The LED luminaire is a replaceable module and ships with an optional cover that conceals it, so the fan can be run as a blade-only fixture where downlight is not wanted. When the light is in use it dims continuously rather than stepping, and the module is rated 50,000 average hours.
8) Is a DC motor ceiling fan worth it over a standard AC fan for a rental or multi-family unit?
The Axis uses a DC motor rated up to 70 percent more efficient than traditional fans, and it is Energy Star qualified, which matters where utility costs or energy credits are in play. The practical benefit for occupied units is noise: every unit is factory-balanced and sound tested, so no wobble, rattle or click, and the reversible motor with 6 speeds lets tenants run it year round.
9) Is the Axis ceiling fan ADA compliant?
No. The Axis is not ADA compliant, which is worth flagging on institutional, healthcare or public-accommodation work where fixtures must meet ADA criteria. It does carry UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL safety listings and Energy Star qualification.
10) How much air does a 3-blade 44-inch Axis actually move?
Up to 4587 CFM on the 44 inch Axis, from three ABS blades 18.38 inches long set at a 14 degree pitch, with 6 speed steps to dial it in. The 14 degree pitch with a DC motor is what lets a 3-blade fan move that volume without the noise a steeper-pitch AC fan makes.
11) What finishes does the Axis 44-inch smart fan come in?
Three finishes across the Axis line: Bronze, Matte Black and Matte White, each available in all three color temperatures on both the 44 inch and 52 inch models. On the Bronze version the blades are Bronze as well, and the finish is weather resistant for covered outdoor use.
12) What voltage circuit does the Modern Forms Axis fan require?
120V, which is a standard residential and light commercial branch circuit. No transformer or line-voltage conversion is needed, and the Bluetooth wall control option wires as a standard 3-way or 4-way switch leg.
