Modern Forms FR-W1801-42L-BZ – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Modern Forms Wynd ceiling fan be installed on a covered outdoor patio?
Yes. The Wynd carries a Wet location rating and is ETL and cETL Wet Location Listed, along with UL, cUL and CSA, so it can go indoors or outside, including covered patios and porches. It runs on 120V.
2) Will the Wynd fan work on a sloped ceiling?
Slope ceilings up to 30 degrees are covered with the hardware supplied. Beyond 30 degrees you need a different mounting approach. The fan ships with a 4.5 inch downrod, so on a vaulted ceiling you will usually want a longer downrod, sold separately.
3) What blade spans does the Wynd FR-W1801 come in, and which size suits a bedroom versus a great room?
Three spans are offered: FR-W1801-42, FR-W1801-52 and FR-W1801-60. The 42 inch version (16.5 inch blades, 5 of them) is sized for bedrooms, breakfast nooks, patios and medium rooms. Step up to the 52 or 60 inch model for larger living and great rooms.
4) Is a remote included with the FR-W1801 Wynd, or do I need to buy a wall control?
A battery-operated Bluetooth remote with a wall cradle (F-RCBT-WT) is in the box. A hardwired Bluetooth wall control, F-WCBT-WT, is not included and is ordered separately if you want a switched-box control at the door.
5) What finishes and LED color temperatures can I order the Wynd 42 inch fan in?
Four finishes: Bronze, Matte Black, Matte White and Stainless Steel. Each is available in 2700K, 3000K and 3500K LED color temperature, and all three temperatures exist in all four finishes on the 42 inch model. Pick 2700K to match warm residential lamping, 3500K for a cooler, more commercial look.
6) How much light does the Wynd fan put out, and can the LED be replaced?
The integrated luminaire is a replaceable LED module by WAC Lighting rated 1600 lumens at 90 CRI with a flood distribution, continuously dimmable, and rated 50,000 hours. Because the module is replaceable rather than sealed, you are not scrapping the fan when the LED ends its life, which matters on a multi-unit or hospitality fleet.
7) How much air does the 42 inch Wynd move, and does it reverse for winter?
Airflow is 4,981 CFM from a 13 degree blade pitch on ABS blades. The DC motor is reversible with 6 speeds, so you can run it in reverse at low speed to push warm air down in heating season.
8) Does the Wynd fan tie into Alexa or Google Home, or does it only work by remote?
It syncs with the Modern Forms app over Bluetooth and integrates with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Control4 and Josh AI. The included Bluetooth remote works on its own if you never set up the app.
9) Is the Wynd DC fan worth it over an AC fan for energy use?
The DC motor is up to 70 percent more efficient than a traditional fan motor and the fan is Energy Star rated, which is often what gets it through a utility rebate or an institutional energy spec. It is also factory-balanced and sound tested, so no wobble or click, which is why it holds up in bedrooms and guest rooms.
10) Is the Modern Forms Wynd fan ADA compliant?
No. The Wynd is not an ADA compliant product. For facilities where ADA-compliant controls are required, the fan mounting itself is overhead and out of the way, but the fan should not be cited as ADA compliant on a submittal.
11) Where do I get the mounting and wiring instructions for the FR-W1801?
A Modern Forms installation guide is published for the Wynd and covers mounting, downrod assembly and the 120V wiring. It is the document to follow for the slope-ceiling canopy setup and remote pairing.
