Build an economical and versatile layered LED Tape light system using Basics or Gemini. Basics & Gemini LED tape lights are easy-to-setup with seamless and scalable run lengths, sharing power supplies and components. Basics LED Tape delivers precision and performance with two selectable power outputs and five selectable color temperatures from warm 2700K to cool 5000 Kelvin. Gemini is a continuous phosphorus (COB) tape that eliminates unsightly diode imaging and great for applications where the LED Tape Light is reflected or in direct sight.
  • Flex Y connectors can be used to connect three strips of Basics & Gemini Tape Light on separate runs with power continuity.

1) What does the WAC Lighting T24-BS-Y Flex Y connector actually do in a tape light run?
The T24-BS-Y is a three-way splitter for WAC Basics and Gemini 24VDC LED tape. It ties three strips together on separate runs while keeping power continuity, so you can branch a cove or under-cabinet layout off one feed instead of pulling a second lead back to the driver. Each leg is a 6 inch flexible lead, which lets you jump a corner or a gap between cabinet sections without bending the tape itself.
2) Will this Y connector work with any 24V LED tape, or only WAC tape?
It is built for WAC's Basics and Gemini 24V DC tape light and their cut-and-reconnect solderless connector system. Basics cuts in the field every 4 inches and Gemini every 2 inches, and this connector mates to those cut points. Other manufacturers' tape uses different contact pitch and width, so treat this as a WAC Basics/Gemini part rather than a universal splitter.
3) What power supply do I need behind a Basics or Gemini tape run using this connector?
Two paths. Use the universal input PS-24DC-U supply (120/220/277V in, 24V DC out, up to 288W), which also requires the T24-BS-EX2 lead wire to get from the driver to the tape. Or use the 120VAC EN-BT60 supply, which ships with its lead wire included. The Y connector itself carries no driver, it only splits the 24V output downstream.
4) Can I dim a tape run that branches through a Flex Y connector?
Yes, and the connector does nothing to the dimming behavior. Basics and Gemini dim smoothly on ELV, TRIAC, or 0-10V, with 0-10V only available when you use the PS-24DC-U supply. The dimmer goes on the primary side of the transformer, not between the driver and the tape, so all three branches off the Y dim together as one zone.
5) Can I use this LED tape connector in a bathroom or a covered exterior soffit?
Damp locations only. The Basics and Gemini system is UL and cUL Listed for damp locations at IP20, which covers a bath ceiling cove or a covered interior soffit but not wet locations, direct spray, or open exterior exposure. IP20 offers no water ingress protection at all.
6) Does this WAC tape light system meet California Title 24 and ADA requirements?
Yes on both. The Basics and Gemini system is CEC listed, Title 24 compliant, and ADA compliant, and it carries Energy Star. That combination is what a school, healthcare, or multifamily spec in California typically asks for on cove and task lighting.
7) Should I use a Y connector or run a separate feed for a second branch of tape?
Use the Y when the branches are close enough that the 6 inch leads reach and the combined load still sits under your driver's capacity, 288W max on the PS-24DC-U. It saves you a second home run and keeps all three legs on one dimming zone. Run separate feeds when you want the branches dimmed or switched independently, or when the total wattage of three runs would overrun a single driver.
8) Can I mix Basics tape and Gemini tape on the same Y connector?
Yes. Both are 24V DC and share power supplies and components, so a Y connector can feed a Basics run and a Gemini run off the same source. Worth noting the visual difference: Gemini is a continuous phosphor COB tape with no diode imaging, so a mixed layout will look different branch to branch if both are in direct sight or reflected off a surface.
9) What colors does the T24-BS-Y come in, and which should I use in a cove?
Black (T24-BS-Y-BK) and white (T24-BS-Y-WT). Pick to match the tape and the channel so the splitter does not read as a dark spot in a visible run. In a deep cove where nothing is in sight line, either works. The body is aluminum.
