WAC Lighting Basics and Gemini 24VDC Tape-to-Tape I Connector

Build an economical and versatile layered LED Tape light system using Basics or Gemini. Basics & Gemini LED tape lights are easy-to-setup with seamless and scalable run lengths, sharing power supplies and components. Basics LED Tape delivers precision and performance with two selectable power outputs and five selectable color temperatures from warm 2700K to cool 5000 Kelvin. Gemini is a continuous phosphorus (COB) tape that eliminates unsightly diode imaging and great for applications where the LED Tape Light is reflected or in direct sight.
  • Tape-to-Tape I Connector can be used to connect two strips of Basics & Gemini Tape Light together with power continuity.
  • Flexible and customizable with a low profile. Use with universal input voltage 120-220-277V power supply: PS-24DC-U and T24-BS-EX2 lead wire required or 120VAC power supply: EN-BT60 with lead wire included.
  • Basics LED tape light can be cut in the field every 4in and re-connected with safe and secure connectors. Gemini LED tape light can be cut in the field every 2in and re-connected with safe and secure connectors. Smooth robust illumination deployed from evenly placed UV coated LEDs for cove, accent and task lighting applications.
  • Smooth and continuous dimming with an electronic low voltage dimmer (ELV), TRIAC or 0-10V (0-10V only available with PS-24DC-U power Supply). Dimmers should be installed on the primary side of the transformer. Driver input voltage: 120V-220V-277V AC, Driver output voltage: 24V DC. Driver is available in a 288W max load.
  • High Powered LED's 90+ CRI, Rated Hours: 80,000, Voltage: 24V, Lumen Options: 100+ lm/ft, or 200+ lm/ft.
  • Standards: UL & cUL Listed for Damp Locations IP20 rated. CEC Title 24 & ADA Compliant.

WAC Lighting T24-BS-MM-CL – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the WAC Lighting T24-BS-MM tape-to-tape connector actually do?
The T24-BS-MM is a straight (I) tape-to-tape connector that joins two lengths of WAC Basics or Gemini 24VDC LED tape end to end and carries power through the joint, so the second run lights from the same feed. It's the piece you need after cutting tape to length: Basics cuts every 4 inches, Gemini every 2 inches, and the cut end reconnects into a connector like this one rather than being soldered.
2) Will this connector work with any 24V LED tape, or only WAC Basics and Gemini?
It is built for the WAC Basics and Gemini collection at 24V DC. Both families share power supplies and components, so a Basics run and a Gemini run can be joined with the same connector. Tape from another manufacturer is a different pitch and pad layout, so don't plan the job around it fitting.
3) Can I use this connector in a bathroom or a covered exterior soffit?
Damp location only. The Basics and Gemini system is UL and cUL Listed for damp locations and IP20 rated, which covers an indoor bath ceiling or a fully protected covered soffit, but not anywhere subject to direct water or weather. IP20 means no water ingress protection at all, so a wet location needs a different product family.
4) What else do I need to order to power a Basics or Gemini tape run?
Two paths. With the universal input 120-220-277V supply PS-24DC-U, you also need the T24-BS-EX2 lead wire, which is not included. With the 120VAC supply EN-BT60, the lead wire comes with it. The tape-to-tape connector only bridges tape to tape, so it does not replace either of those feed components. The driver is available in a 288W max load at 24V DC output.
5) How much space does the tape-to-tape connector add in a cove or channel?
The connector body measures 0.57 x 0.38 x 0.68 inches, so it stays close to the tape profile and fits inside most cove details and shallow channels. If you're running the tape in an extrusion, check that clearance against your channel's inside dimension before you commit the layout.
6) Does adding a tape-to-tape connector affect dimming on the run?
No, the joint passes power straight through and the dimming is handled upstream. The system dims with an ELV, TRIAC, or 0-10V control, and 0-10V is only available when you use the PS-24DC-U power supply. Dimmers go on the primary side of the transformer, not between tape sections, so the connector location has nothing to do with dimming performance.
7) Does the WAC tape-to-tape connector meet Title 24 and ADA for a commercial job?
Yes on both. It is CEC listed, Title 24 compliant, and ADA compliant, which is what a spec on a California commercial or multi-family project will ask for. It also carries Energy Star.
8) Should I use a tape-to-tape connector or just run one continuous piece of tape?
Run continuous tape where the geometry lets you. The straight tape-to-tape connector earns its place where you had to cut the run, at a field cut to length or where a section had to be replaced, and you need the two pieces electrically joined in line. For a corner or a change of direction you want a different connector geometry, not this straight I version.
9) Will the joint show as a dark spot in a cove where the light is reflected?
There will be a short unlit gap at any connector, which is why placement matters more with Gemini than Basics. Gemini is a continuous phosphor (COB) tape that eliminates diode imaging and is intended for runs that are reflected or in direct sight, so put the joint at an inside corner or behind a return where the reflection won't pick it up. On Basics you have more freedom, and its 4 inch cut interval sets where the joint can land.
10) What finish does the T24-BS-MM come in?
Clear, ordered as T24-BS-MM-CL. That is the only finish, which suits it to coves and undercabinet details where the joint sits out of direct sight. The body is aluminum.
