Modern Forms FR-W1806-56L27OBDW – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Modern Forms Cervantes FR-W1806 be installed on a covered patio or open porch?
Yes. The Cervantes FR-W1806 is Wet Location rated, with UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL listings, so it can go on a covered patio, a porch, or an exposed exterior ceiling as well as indoors. The blades are ABS rather than wood, which is what makes the outdoor rating possible on a Dark Walnut look.
2) Will the Cervantes 56-inch fan work on a sloped or vaulted ceiling?
It mounts on sloped ceilings up to 30 degrees. Past that angle you need a different mounting approach. It ships with a 4.5 inch downrod, which is short, so on a high or steeply sloped ceiling plan on a longer downrod to get the blades down to a useful height.
3) Do I have to choose a color temperature when ordering the FR-W1806 Cervantes?
Yes, the light is fixed at the color temperature you order. The Cervantes is offered in 2700K and 3500K. Both put out 1600 lumens at 90 CRI from a replaceable LED module and both are dimmable, so the only difference is the warmth of the light: 2700K reads warm and residential, 3500K reads neutral white. If you are matching existing cans or sconces in the room, order to match them.
4) Does the Cervantes DC fan come with a remote, or do I need a wall control?
A battery-operated Bluetooth remote with a wall cradle is included. A hardwired wall control is not included. The fan also runs from the free Modern Forms app over Bluetooth and works with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and Control4, so for most installs the remote plus app is all you need. If the spec calls for a wall-mounted control, order it separately.
5) Does the Modern Forms Cervantes fan qualify as Energy Star or ADA compliant for a spec job?
Neither. The Cervantes FR-W1806 is not Energy Star qualified and is not ADA compliant. If your project documents require either, this fan will not satisfy that line item. It does carry UL, cUL, CSA, ETL and cETL listings with a Wet location rating.
6) What size room does a 56-inch, 6577 CFM ceiling fan cover?
With a 56 inch span, four 23.63 inch blades at a 14 degree pitch and up to 6577 CFM on the top of six speeds, the Cervantes is sized for great rooms, large bedrooms, open-concept living areas and covered outdoor rooms. For small bedrooms or tight hallways a smaller span is the better fit.
7) How is the wiring rough-in and electrical load for the FR-W1806 Cervantes?
The Cervantes runs on 120V and draws 48.5 watts total, so it is a light load on a standard residential branch circuit. Because the remote and app handle speed and dimming, a single switched hot to the outlet box is enough; you do not need a second traveler for separate fan and light legs. Outdoors, the box still has to be a listed fan-rated box suitable for the location. Modern Forms publishes an installation guide for the fan.
8) Is a DC motor ceiling fan worth it over a standard AC fan?
For the Cervantes, the DC motor is the reason to buy it. It is reversible, runs at six speeds instead of the usual three, and Modern Forms rates it up to 70 percent more efficient than an AC motor. The whole fan, light included, pulls 48.5 watts at 120V. Reversibility matters in a heated space: run it in reverse at low speed in winter to push warm air back down. An AC fan is the simpler choice if you want pull chains and no app or remote in the loop.
9) If the LED burns out on the Cervantes fan, do I have to replace the whole fan?
No. The luminaire is a replaceable LED module by WAC Lighting, not a sealed array, so the light can be swapped without pulling the fan down. It is rated at 50,000 average hours, 1600 lumens, 90 CRI, with a flood distribution. There is no screw-in bulb base, so standard A-lamps do not apply.
10) I need the same fan on several units, will they match?
The Cervantes fans are a single collection build: four ABS blades in Dark Walnut, a 56 inch span, and the same LED luminaire across the line, so multiple units read identically. The one thing to standardize across a building is the color temperature, since it is set by what you order, 2700K or 3500K. Order every unit in one temperature and the light will match room to room.
