Modern Forms FR-W2001-52L-GH/WW – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Modern Forms Renegade ceiling fan be installed on an open covered patio or a coastal exterior?
Yes. The Renegade carries a Wet location rating with a weather-resistant aluminum housing, and it is UL, cUL, ETL, cETL and CSA listed for wet locations. That means direct exposure to rain and spray is permitted, so covered patios, pergolas and coastal installs are all in scope, as is normal indoor use.
2) Will the Renegade fan work on a sloped or vaulted ceiling?
Out of the box it mounts on slopes up to 30 degrees. For a pitch between 32 and 45 degrees you need to add the XF-SCK slope ceiling kit. Beyond 45 degrees it is not a suitable fan.
3) What size does the Renegade DC fan come in, and which one suits a great room?
Two blade spans are offered: the FR-W2001-52 at 52 inches and the larger FR-W2001-66. The 52 inch, 8-blade version moves 7445 CFM at a 14 degree blade pitch, with individual blades measuring 22.21 inches. For a large great room or a wide covered patio, the 66 inch model covers more floor area; the 52 inch is the better match for a standard patio or bedroom-sized space.
4) Is a remote or a wall control included with the Modern Forms FR-W2001?
A Bluetooth handheld remote with a wall cradle is included (part number F-RCBT-WT). A hardwired wall control is not included. If a property manager wants a fixed in-wall switch rather than a cradle-mounted remote, that has to be sourced separately.
5) Does the Renegade fan integrate with Alexa or a Control4 system?
Yes. Control runs through the Modern Forms app over Bluetooth and the fan works with Google Assistant, Alexa, SmartThings, Control4 and Josh AI. That makes it usable both as a standalone remote-controlled fan and as a device on an existing home automation system.
6) What color temperature and finish combinations can I order the Renegade in?
Finishes are Matte Black, Graphite Weathered Wood and Oil Rubbed Bronze Barn Wood, each available in 2700K, 3000K and 3500K, on both the 52 inch and 66 inch models. Nine combinations per size. If you are standardizing across a building, pick one color temperature and hold it across every unit so the light output matches opening to opening.
7) Is the light on the Renegade fan bright enough to be the only light in a room, and can it be dimmed?
The integrated LED module puts out 1600 lumens at 90 CRI with a flood beam spread and is dimmable. At that output it works as general ambient light for a patio or a bedroom, but it is not a substitute for task lighting in a kitchen or workspace. The module is rated 50,000 hours and is replaceable, and an optional cover conceals the luminaire if you want fan-only appearance.
8) Why pick a DC motor fan like the Renegade over a standard AC ceiling fan?
The reversible DC motor runs up to 70 percent more efficient than a traditional AC fan and gives 6 speeds instead of the usual three, plus it is Energy Star rated. Practically, that means finer speed control at the low end, reverse for winter downdraft, and lower operating cost across a fleet of fans. The tradeoff is that DC fans are electronically controlled, so they run off the supplied Bluetooth remote rather than a standard fan speed wall switch.
9) Are the Renegade's wood-look blades real wood, and will they hold up outdoors?
They are ABS, not timber, finished to look like weathered wood. That is deliberate for a wet-rated fan: ABS blades will not warp, swell or delaminate in humidity the way real wood blades can, which is why this one is listed for coastal and open patio use.
10) What voltage does the Modern Forms Renegade fan run on?
120V, standard residential and light commercial single-phase supply in North America. It is not a 277V fixture, so it will not drop into a commercial 277V lighting circuit.
