4in Extension Rod for WAC Landscape Lighting Accent or Wall Was

WAC Landscape Lighting extension rods are used to extend the distance between a fixture and mounting surface (spike, surface mount canopy, etc). Casted using a special k-alloy aluminum that is engineered to withstand the most challenging environments over time. Solid brass coated in bronze (-BBR finish) may be available for enhanced protection against corrosive elements and is recommended for use in coastal or marine environments. Available in 4in, 8in, 12in, 18in and 24in sizes - extension rods are 1/2in threaded male-to-female and cannot be shortened in the field.

1) What thread does the WAC Lighting 5000-X04 extension rod use, and will it thread into my existing WAC landscape accent light and stake?
The 5000-X04 is a 4 inch extension rod with 1/2 inch threaded male-to-female ends, so it threads in between a WAC Landscape accent or wall wash fixture and its mounting base (ground stake, surface mount canopy, or tree mount box). It is intended for WAC Landscape Lighting products, so if your fixture and stake are WAC Landscape with the standard 1/2 inch thread, it drops straight in between them.
2) Can I cut a WAC 5000 extension rod down to get a height between the stock sizes?
No. WAC Landscape extension rods cannot be shortened in the field, because both ends are finished 1/2 inch threads. Pick the length you need from the stock sizes: 4, 8, 12, 18 and 24 inches. The 5000-X04 is the 4 inch rod. Rods also stack, so you can combine lengths to reach an in-between height rather than trying to trim one.
3) Which finish of the WAC 5000-X04 extension rod should I use on a coastal or oceanfront property?
Go with the Bronze on Brass version, 5000-X04-BBR. That one is solid brass coated in bronze, and WAC recommends brass for enhanced protection against corrosive elements in coastal or marine environments. The Black on Aluminum (5000-X04-BK) and Bronze on Aluminum (5000-X04-BZ) rods are cast k-alloy aluminum, which is fine inland but not the choice for salt air.
4) Is the WAC 5000 extension rod rated for outdoor wet locations and buried stake use?
Yes. WAC Landscape extension rods are UL and cUL listed and IP65 rated for wet locations, so direct exposure to rain and irrigation spray on a staked or canopy-mounted accent light is within rating.
5) What finishes does the WAC 5000-X04 extension rod come in so it matches the fixtures already on the property?
Three: Black on Aluminum (5000-X04-BK), Bronze on Aluminum (5000-X04-BZ), and Bronze on Brass (5000-X04-BBR). Match the rod to the finish code on the accent or wall wash heads you already have in the ground so the stem does not read as a different part.
6) Why would I add an extension rod to a landscape accent light instead of just mounting it on the stake?
Height. The rod lifts the fixture above whatever is in front of it, so the beam clears ground cover, mulch, shrubs or a mounded bed instead of being blocked the first season the plants fill in. On a surface mount canopy or tree mount box it does the same thing, pushing the head off the wall or trunk to get the aim you want. The 5000-X04 adds 4 inches; the family runs up to 24 inches if you are lighting over taller plantings.
