WAC Landscape Lighting extension rods are used to extend the distance between a fixture and mounting surface (spike, surface mount canopy, etc). Casted using a special k-alloy aluminum that is engineered to withstand the most challenging environments over time. Solid brass coated in bronze (-BBR finish) may be available for enhanced protection against corrosive elements and is recommended for use in coastal or marine environments. Available in 4in, 8in, 12in, 18in and 24in sizes - extension rods are 1/2in threaded male-to-female and cannot be shortened in the field.

1) What thread does the WAC 5000-X12 extension rod use, and will it thread onto my existing landscape spike and accent light?
The 5000-X12 is a 1/2 inch threaded male-to-female rod, so it threads in between a WAC Landscape fixture and its mounting base, whether that base is a ground spike, a surface mount canopy, or a tree mount box. It is intended for use with WAC Landscape Lighting products, so confirm your fixture and base use the standard 1/2 inch landscape thread before mixing it with another brand.
2) Can I cut a WAC 5000-X12 extension rod down to a shorter length on site?
No. WAC Landscape extension rods cannot be shortened in the field, because both ends are finished with 1/2 inch threads. If 12 inches is too tall, order the length you need instead: the rods come in 4, 8, 12, 18 and 24 inch sizes.
3) Which finish of the WAC 12 inch extension rod should I use on a coastal property?
Go with the Bronze on Brass version, 5000-X12-BBR. That one is solid brass coated in bronze for added protection against corrosive elements and is the recommended choice for coastal or marine sites. The Black on Aluminum (5000-X12-BK) and Bronze on Aluminum (5000-X12-BZ) rods are cast k-alloy aluminum, fine inland but not the pick for salt air.
4) Is the WAC 5000-X12 landscape extension rod rated to sit outdoors in the rain and sprinkler spray?
Yes. The extension rod is UL and cUL listed and IP65 rated for wet locations, so direct rain and irrigation spray are within its rating. The aluminum versions are cast from a corrosion resistant k-alloy for long outdoor exposure.
5) I need to aim a WAC landscape accent light around a corner, not just raise it. Does the extension rod do that?
The rod only adds straight length between the fixture and its base. For a 90 degree turn, WAC offers an optional L-connector, 5000-LCO-BK, which can be combined with the rod to redirect the run.
6) Why would I put a 12 inch extension rod under a landscape accent light instead of mounting the fixture straight to the stake?
Height. Mounting straight to the stake puts the fixture at grade, where groundcover, mulch, or snow block the beam. A 12 inch rod lifts the accent or wall wash head above planting so the beam clears, and it also lets you set the throw distance for a wall wash. If 12 inches is not enough to clear mature shrubs, the same rod is made in 18 and 24 inch lengths.
7) What finishes does the WAC 5000-X12 extension rod come in so it matches the rest of my landscape fixtures?
