WAC Lighting 5000-X08-BBR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What thread does the WAC 5000-X08 landscape extension rod use, and will it thread onto my accent light and stake?
The 5000-X08 is a 1/2 inch threaded male-to-female rod, so it threads in between a WAC Landscape fixture and its mounting base (stake, surface mount canopy, or tree mount box). Both ends are 1/2 inch, which means you can also stack rods to get a height the standard sizes don't hit. It is intended for use with WAC Landscape Lighting products.
2) Can I cut a WAC 5000-X08 extension rod down to a shorter length on site?
No. WAC Landscape extension rods cannot be shortened in the field. Pick the length you need from the offered sizes: 4in, 8in, 12in, 18in and 24in. The 5000-X08 is the 8 inch rod.
3) Which finish of the WAC 5000-X08 extension rod should I use on a coastal or oceanfront property?
Go with the Bronze on Brass version, 5000-X08-BBR. That is solid brass coated in bronze, which WAC recommends for coastal or marine environments and corrosive conditions. The Black on Aluminum (5000-X08-BK) and Bronze on Aluminum (5000-X08-BZ) rods are cast k-alloy aluminum, fine for normal exterior work but not the ones to spec on salt air.
4) Is the WAC landscape extension rod rated for wet locations?
Yes. The 5000-X08 extension rod is UL and cUL listed and IP65 rated for wet locations, so it is good for open-air landscape installs where it takes rain and irrigation spray directly.
5) Why would I put an 8 inch extension rod on a landscape accent light instead of mounting the fixture straight to the stake?
Height clears obstructions. Mounted directly on a stake, an accent or wall wash head sits near grade, where mulch, ground cover, and growing shrubs block the beam and snow buries it. The 8 inch rod lifts the fixture above that and lets you re-aim a wall wash from further back for a longer throw. It's also how you raise a fixture off a surface mount canopy or tree mount box.
6) Does the WAC 5000-X08 extension rod come with a fixture or a stake?
No, it's the rod only. It's an accessory that goes between a WAC Landscape accent or wall wash fixture and its mounting base, so you order the fixture, the mount (stake, surface mount canopy, or tree mount box), and the rod separately.
7) I'm standardizing a multi-building property on black landscape fixtures. What finishes does the WAC 8 inch extension rod come in so it matches?
Three: Black on Aluminum (5000-X08-BK), Bronze on Aluminum (5000-X08-BZ), and Bronze on Brass (5000-X08-BBR). For a black fixture package, the -BK rod matches. Note that the brass option is offered in bronze only, so if a site needs the marine-grade brass rod the visible finish will read bronze rather than black.
