WAC Lighting HLE-BK – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does a WAC Lighting H Track live end connector actually do, and do I need one on every track run?
The HLE live end connector is the piece that brings 120V power into the end of an H Track run. Every powered run needs one feed point, so if you are running track off a junction box at the end of the run, this is the part that makes the connection. It is hardwired, not a plug-in cord set, so it lands on a supply from a box rather than a receptacle.
2) Will the HLE connector fit J Track or another brand's track, or only WAC H Track?
H Track only. The HLE is built to the H Track profile in WAC's line, and track systems are not cross-compatible between profiles, so it will not seat in J Track or an L-profile system. If your existing track is not H series, this is the wrong connector.
3) Is the HLE track connector rated for outdoor or damp locations like a covered patio or garage bay?
Dry locations, interior only. The HLE carries a dry location rating, so it should not go on a covered exterior soffit, a car wash bay, or anywhere subject to condensation. For those openings you need a wet or damp rated feed, not this one.
4) Is a WAC H Track live end connector UL listed for commercial installations?
UL and cUL listed, which covers both US and Canadian jobs. It is also CEC listed. It is not Energy Star and not Title 24 compliant, so if your project is being reviewed against California Title 24 lighting requirements, that has to be satisfied by the fixtures and controls rather than by this connector.
5) Does buying the WAC HLE get me a working track lighting run, or do I need more parts?
The HLE is a component, not a complete system. It powers the end of the run and nothing else, so a working installation also needs the H Track sections themselves, an end cap on the far end, any connectors for corners or continued runs, and the track heads. Budget the connector as one line item on the takeoff, not the package.
6) Does the WAC HLE work on a 277V track run in my commercial building?
No. The HLE is a 120V connector. On a 277V lighting branch, common in commercial buildings, you need a line voltage connector rated for that circuit instead, and the track and heads have to match. Check the panel schedule for the circuit feeding the run before you order.
7) How much does the WAC H Track live end connector stick out past the end of the track?
It measures 4.25 x 1.39 x 0.75 inches overall, with the backplate at 4.25 wide by 1.39 deep and 0.75 high. The 0.75 inch height is the number that matters in a tight ceiling pocket or against a soffit return, because that is the full profile of the connector once installed.
8) What finishes does the WAC HLE live end connector come in so it matches the rest of my track?
Four finishes: black (HLE-BK), brushed nickel (HLE-BN), dark bronze (HLE-DB), and white (HLE-WT). Order the connector in the same finish as the track and the fixtures, since the live end sits at the visible end of the run rather than being hidden above the ceiling.
9) Can I mount the H Track live end connector either way up, or does orientation matter?
Orientation matters. The HLE is not a reversible mounting part, so it goes on in one orientation relative to the track polarity. Getting it flipped means the heads will not seat or power correctly, so set the track direction before you land the feed.
10) What is the WAC H Track live end connector made of, and will it hold up in a retail or lobby install?
Aluminum body, finished to match the track. That is standard for interior track components, keeps the weight down on a ceiling-mounted run, and holds a painted or plated finish well in conditioned interior space. It is a dry location part, so keep it out of unconditioned areas.
