WAC Lighting WAC-2571 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC 2571 indicator light run off my existing 12V landscape transformer?
Yes. The 2571 surface mounted indicator light runs on 12V and is hardwired, so it ties into a standard low voltage landscape run. It draws 2.8W and puts out 60 lumens, so it adds very little load per fixture on a transformer feeding a long path run.
2) Is this WAC indicator light OK to mount on a deck or step that gets rained on and washed down?
It's an outdoor fixture with a Wet location rating and carries UL, cUL and an IP66 rating, so direct rain and hose-down washing are within spec. The body is stainless steel with a clear glass lens.
3) What hole or footprint do I need to cut for the WAC 2571 surface mount light?
This is a top surface mount fixture, not a recessed one, so it sits on the finished surface. Overall it measures 2.88 inches in diameter and length, 2.88 inches wide, and stands 0.79 inches proud of the surface. You only need to pass the 36 inch lead wire through, plus the mounting screws in the hardware pack.
4) Which color temperature and finish should I order for the WAC 2571 indicator light?
Four combinations are built: 2700K or 3000K, each in plain stainless steel or stainless steel coated in bronze. Part numbers are 2571-27SS, 2571-27BS, 2571-30SS and 2571-30BS. 2700K reads warmer and blends with older halogen path runs; 3000K is the cleaner white most newer LED landscape systems are on. Match whichever the rest of the property already uses.
5) Will this WAC light meet California Title 24 and ADA requirements for a commercial walkway?
The 2571 is listed as Title 24 compliant and ADA compliant. It projects only 0.79 inches off the mounting surface, which is what keeps a wall or post mounted unit out of the path of travel. It is not Energy Star rated.
6) What comes in the box with the WAC 2571 step light, and do I need to buy connectors?
Each one ships as a complete fixture with the factory sealed LED, a 36 inch lead wire, a hardware pack, and two Ideal direct burial wire nuts. The connectors for tying into the low voltage run are included, so you don't need to source them separately. The LED is integrated and supplied, so there is no lamp to buy.
7) Can I dim these WAC 12V path indicator lights?
Dimming is MLV, so the low voltage side needs a magnetic low voltage transformer and an MLV-rated dimmer on the line side. Pairing it with an ELV or standard incandescent dimmer is the usual cause of flicker or no dimming at all on a run like this.
8) Is this bright enough to light a stairway, or is it just a marker?
At 60 lumens and 2.8W, the 2571 is a path indicator, meant to mark the edge of a tread, deck, or walkway rather than illuminate it. If you need usable light on the stair surface itself, spec a higher output step or path light and use these for wayfinding between them.
9) If the LED fails in this WAC indicator light, can it be replaced?
No. The LED module is factory sealed and integrated, which is what allows the IP66 wet rating. There is no serviceable lamp, so the fixture is replaced as a unit. It is rated for an average 70,000 hours.
10) Can I flip this WAC 2571 to mount it a different way?
No, it isn't a reversible mount. It's built as a top surface mounted fixture with bi-directional output, so it goes on the face of the surface in the orientation designed for it. Plan the wire exit at 36 inches from that fixed position.
