1) What size hole do I need to core for this 2in square inground light?
The fixture body measures 2.75 inches long by 2.75 inches wide by 3.25 inches high, with a 1.88 inch diameter on the sleeve portion. Plan the pocket for a 3.25 inch depth plus room underneath for gravel drainage and the wire run, and keep the beveled top flush with the finished surface.
2) Does this WAC inground indicator light run on line voltage or do I need a landscape transformer?
It is a 12V fixture, hardwired, so it has to run off a low voltage landscape transformer, not a 120V circuit. Each head draws 4W, which is what you use to size the transformer and figure voltage drop across the run. The factory leads are 36 inches long, so plan your splice or junction point within three feet of the fixture.
3) Will this put out enough light to mark a walkway edge, or should I use a taller path light?
At 200 lumens from a single integrated LED, the 2051 is an indicator, meaning it marks the edge of a path, step or driveway rather than washing the walking surface with light. If you need to actually illuminate the tread and the planting beside it, use a bollard or a mushroom-head path light on a stem instead and save the inground units for edge definition and accent runs.
4) Which color temperature and finish should I order on the WAC 2051?
Four orderable combinations: 2700K or 3000K, each in Stainless Steel or Stainless Steel Coated in Bronze. The part numbers are 2051-27SS, 2051-27BS, 2051-30SS and 2051-30BS. Pick 2700K to match incandescent-era landscape lighting already on the property, 3000K if the rest of the LED exterior scheme is 3000K. Bronze reads darker against mulch and pavers; bare stainless shows more in concrete and stone.
5) How many of these 12V path indicator lights can I put on one run?
At 4W each, the load math is simple: ten fixtures is 40W, twenty is 80W. Size the low voltage transformer above the total with headroom and watch voltage drop on long runs, since these are 12V and have only 36 inches of lead to reach a splice point.
6) Can I dim these inground lights, and what kind of dimmer do I need?
Dimming is MLV, magnetic low voltage, so the control has to be an MLV-rated dimmer on the primary side of a magnetic landscape transformer. An ELV or TRIAC-only dimmer is the wrong control here and will give you flicker or dropout at the low end.
