WAC Lighting WAC-1051 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC 1051 inground indicator light be buried in soil or set in a paver walkway where water collects?
Yes. The 1051 indicator light is an outdoor fixture rated for Wet locations and carries a UL, cUL, IP66 safety rating, so direct exposure to rain, irrigation and washdown is within its rating. The housing is stainless steel with a clear glass lens, which is what you want sitting at grade in a paver field or planting bed.
2) Does the WAC 1051 run on line voltage or do I need a landscape transformer?
It is a 12V fixture, so it has to run off a low voltage landscape transformer, not a 120V branch circuit. It is hardwired, with a 36 inch lead to reach your splice or hub. At 2W draw per fixture you can run a long string on a modest transformer.
3) Is 100 lumens enough to light a walkway, or is this just a marker light?
Treat it as a marker. At 100 lumens from a 2W LED, the 1051 is a path indicator, meant to show the edge of a step, walk or driveway rather than wash a surface with usable light. If you need the path actually illuminated, pair these with proper path or step fixtures and use the indicators to define the edges.
4) Which color temperature should I order for the WAC 1051, and can I change it later?
Two choices, set at the factory: 2700K or 3000K, both in a stainless steel finish (1051-27SS and 1051-30SS). There is no field-adjustable switch on this fixture, so pick the temperature up front and keep it consistent with the rest of the run. 2700K is the warmer, more residential look; 3000K reads slightly crisper.
5) Can I put the WAC 1051 inground light on a dimmer?
It dims on an MLV (magnetic low voltage) dimmer, matched to the magnetic 12V transformer feeding it. Do not expect correct performance on an ELV or standard incandescent dimmer with an electronic transformer; keep the dimmer, transformer and fixture in the same MLV family.
6) Can the LED be replaced in the WAC 1051, or is the whole fixture throwaway when it fails?
The LED is integrated and supplied with the fixture, so there is no lamp to swap. One integrated LED per fixture, rated 70,000 average hours, which is why these get spec'd in hardscape where getting back to the fixture is difficult.
7) Will the WAC 1051 pass a California Title 24 outdoor lighting review, and is it ADA compliant?
Both are covered: the 1051 is listed Title 24 compliant and ADA compliant. It is not Energy Star rated. For an ADA path, the flush inground mounting is what keeps it out of the protruding-object zone entirely.
8) I need to add markers to an existing WAC landscape run. Does the 1051 fit that system?
It does. The 1051 belongs to the WAC Landscape family and runs at 12V like the rest of that low voltage line, so it taps into an existing 12V landscape run off the same transformer. Just budget 2W per fixture against your transformer capacity.
9) Can the WAC 1051 beveled top indicator be mounted the other way up, as a wall or riser light?
No. The 1051 is not a reversible-mounting fixture. It is built to sit inground with the square beveled top at grade; for a stair riser or wall face you need a fixture designed for that orientation.
