WAC Lighting WAC-JLED160 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the WAC Lighting LED160 track head fit standard J-type track?
Yes. The LED160 Precision head is built as a J track fixture, so it mounts to J-type (Juno-compatible) single-circuit track and runs on 120V line voltage. It is not a universal head, so it won't drop into H or L track systems without the matching adapter.
2) What do I have to specify when ordering the WAC LED160 track head?
Four things decide the part number: beam spread (20 degree spot or 40 degree flood), CRI (85 or 90), color temperature, and finish. Color temperature runs 2700K, 3000K, 3500K and 4000K on the 85 CRI heads; the 90 CRI heads also cover 2700K through 4000K. Finish is black or white. For example, J-LED160S-927-WT is the 20 degree, 90 CRI, 2700K head in white, and J-LED160F-40-BK is the 40 degree, 85 CRI, 4000K head in black.
3) Can I use the WAC LED160 track head in a covered exterior walkway or a bathroom?
No. The LED160 is rated for dry locations and interior use only. For a covered walkway, a canopy, a shower area or anywhere subject to moisture or condensation, you need a damp- or wet-location rated head instead.
4) Is the WAC LED160 Energy Star listed, and does it meet California Title 24?
Energy Star listed, yes, and it carries UL and cUL safety listings for the US and Canada. It is not a Title 24 compliant fixture, so on a California project where the track head itself has to be a JA8 or Title 24 qualified luminaire, this is not the one to spec.
5) Does buying the WAC LED160 track heads get me the track too?
No. The LED160 is sold as the head only, not a complete system. You still need the J-type track sections, a feed (live end or floating canopy), connectors and end caps to finish the run. Count one head per fixture position and order the track and power feed separately.
6) Spot or flood for a track head over retail merchandise versus general gallery wash?
The LED160 comes in a 20 degree beam and a 40 degree beam. Use the 20 degree for accenting a single piece, a product display or artwork where you want a tight pool of light. The 40 degree is the better choice for washing a wall, lighting a run of shelving, or general ambient fill where you want overlapping coverage from heads spaced along the track.
7) Can the WAC LED160 track head be dimmed, and does it need a separate driver?
The head is dimmable and the LED driver is integral, so there is no remote transformer or external driver to mount. Dimming is done at the wall control on the 120V circuit.
8) Is the LED module in the WAC LED160 replaceable, or do I replace the whole head when it fails?
It is an integrated LED module, not a lamped fixture, so there is no socket and no bulb to stock. The LED ships in the head and is rated 70,000 average hours, which is why specifiers treat these as a whole-head replacement at end of life rather than a relamp item.
9) How big is the WAC LED160 head, and will it clear a low ceiling or a shallow soffit?
The Precision LED160 head measures 5.56 inches high, 5.31 inches wide, and 2.25 inches in diameter at the cylinder. Figure that 5.56 inch height as the drop below the track body when the head is aimed straight down, which is the number to check against a soffit or valance depth.
10) If I'm matching WAC LED160 heads to existing track lighting in a building, what keeps the color consistent?
Match two values on the order: color temperature and CRI. Mixing a 3000K head into a 2700K run reads as an obvious color shift down the ceiling, and an 85 CRI head beside a 90 CRI one will render merchandise or artwork differently. Note the part number on an existing head, then order the same temperature and CRI combination in black or white to match the trim already up.
11) Is the WAC LED160 track head ADA compliant for a corridor?
No. The LED160 is not an ADA compliant fixture. Since it is a track head that projects below the ceiling plane, keep it out of required egress corridors and other areas where protruding-object limits apply, or select a surface or recessed luminaire for those locations.
12) Which CRI should I order on the WAC LED160, 85 or 90?
Go to 90 CRI where color accuracy is being judged: galleries, retail apparel and cosmetics, showrooms, hospitality millwork. The 85 CRI version is fine for corridors, offices, back-of-house and general accent work. Both are offered in 2700K through 4000K and in black or white.
13) Can the WAC LED160 head be mounted on track running on a wall as well as a ceiling?
Yes, the head has reversible mounting, so it can be set in either orientation on the track and aimed accordingly, including wall-mounted track runs. The aluminum body handles the heat sinking in either position.
