1) Will the WAC HTK-178 track head fit my existing H-type track?
Yes. The HTK-178 is an H track fixture, so it mounts on H-style (three-circuit H) track at 120 volts line voltage. It will not seat in J or L style track; those use a different adapter geometry, so match the head to the track system already on the ceiling.
2) What bulb does the WAC HTK-178 track head take, and is one included?
It takes a single PAR20 lamp, incandescent or LED, rated to a 75 watt maximum. No lamp ships with the head, so order lamps separately. For a retail or office space running a lot of heads, LED PAR20s keep you well under the 75 watt ceiling per fixture.
3) Can I use this WAC track head on a covered porch or in a bathroom?
No. The HTK-178 is an interior fixture with a dry location rating only. Keep it out of covered exteriors, open porches, soffits, and wet or damp areas such as a shower zone. Damp or wet rated track heads are required in those spots.
4) Is the WAC HTK-178 track head UL listed, and is it approved for California energy code jobs?
It carries UL and cUL safety listings, which covers both US and Canadian installs, and it is CEC listed. It is not Energy Star qualified and is not Title 24 compliant, so on a California project where Title 24 compliant luminaires are specified, this head will not satisfy that line item.
5) Does ordering the HTK-178 give me a working track lighting system?
No. The HTK-178 is the fixture head only, not a complete system. You still need H style track sections, a power feed or end feed connector, canopy or connectors for the layout, and PAR20 lamps. Plan the track and feed with the heads so the circuit load stays within limits at 75 watts maximum per head.
6) Can the HTK-178 track head be put on a dimmer?
The head itself is dimmable, so it can run on a dimmed track circuit. The dimming performance depends on the lamp you install, not the head: a line voltage incandescent PAR20 dims on a standard forward-phase dimmer, while an LED PAR20 has to be a dimmable lamp matched to the dimmer.
7) What finishes does the WAC HTK-178 come in for matching other heads on a run?
Three finishes: Black (HTK-178-BK), Brushed Nickel (HTK-178-BN), and White (HTK-178-WT). For a retrofit on an existing run, match the finish to the track itself as well as the heads, since the adapter sits right against the track and any mismatch shows.
8) How big is the HTK-178 head and how much does it drop off the track?
Compact: 2 inch diameter with a 4 inch maximum height. That keeps the head tight to the ceiling in low plenum spaces, galleries, and retail soffits where a longer cylinder would read heavy or sit in sightlines.
