WAC Lighting HTK-703-BK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the WAC HTK-703 track head fit my existing track, or do I need H-type track?
The HTK-703 is an H track fixture, so it mounts on H-system (three-circuit H-style) track only. It will not lock into J or L style track. It runs on 120V line voltage track, so no transformer is needed in the run.
2) What bulb does the WAC HTK-703 track head take, and does it come with one?
It takes a single PAR30 lamp, incandescent or LED, up to 100W maximum. No lamp is supplied, so order bulbs separately. Total fixture wattage is 100W, which matters when you are adding up the load on a track circuit.
3) Can I use the WAC HTK-703 track head outdoors or in a covered walkway?
No. It is an interior fixture rated for dry locations only. Keep it out of covered exterior soffits, unconditioned parking structures, and bathrooms with shower spray. For a damp or wet listed head you need a different fixture.
4) Is the WAC HTK-703 UL listed, and does it meet California energy requirements?
It carries UL and cUL listing, which covers US and Canadian installs. It is CEC listed. It is not Energy Star and not Title 24 compliant, so if your project is under California Title 24 residential or nonresidential lighting requirements, this head will not satisfy that portion of the spec on its own.
5) Does the HTK-703 include the track, connectors and power feed?
No. It is the head only, not a complete system. You will need H-style track sections, a live end or floating feed, connectors, and end caps to finish the run. Lamps are separate as well.
6) How much clearance do I need below the track for the HTK-703 head?
Allow 9 inches of drop from the track. The head measures 9 inches high, 6.68 inches long, and 4.38 inches in diameter. In retail and gallery work that drop is worth checking against ceiling height and any merchandising fixtures below.
7) Can the HTK-703 head be aimed up as well as down?
Yes, it has reversible mounting, so it can be set to throw light up onto a ceiling or coffer as well as aimed down at wall art or merchandise. With a PAR30 lamp you control the beam by lamp choice, spot or flood.
8) What finishes does the HTK-703 come in for matching heads across a space?
Two finishes, black (HTK-703-BK) and white (HTK-703-WT). White generally disappears against a painted ceiling, black is the usual pick in retail and gallery installs where the aim is to hide the hardware against a dark ceiling. Both are the same fixture otherwise, so mixing across a building is purely cosmetic.
9) Is the HTK-703 durable enough for a retail or hospitality space that gets re-aimed often?
The body is aluminum, which is what you want on a head that gets handled and re-aimed during seasonal merchandising resets. It is a modern styled head, and because it snaps into H track rather than being hardwired to a box, a property manager can relocate or swap heads along the run without an electrician pulling wire.
