The wafer-thin Lotos LED Recessed Kit with remote driver combines high quality light output and efficiency while eliminating the need for a large housing. This innovative design can be installed easily as a remodel or new construction with an optional frame-in kit sold separately for pre-wiring. 1) Will the WAC Lotos 4 inch square downlight fit in a shallow ceiling with limited plenum space?
Yes. The Lotos LED recessed kit uses a remote driver instead of a large housing, so it works in ceilings with as little as 3 inches of plenum clearance. That is what makes it usable in tight joist bays, furred-down soffits, and retrofit ceilings where a can fixture won't go.
2) Can I install the R4ESAR-W9CS in an existing ceiling, or is it new construction only?
Both. The Lotos kit installs as a remodel fixture cutting into finished drywall, or in new construction. For new construction where you want to pre-wire before the ceiling goes up, WAC offers an optional frame-in kit, which is ordered separately.
3) Can the WAC Lotos square downlight go directly against insulation in an attic?
Yes. The Lotos LED module is IC rated and airtight, so it can be in direct contact with insulation and won't act as an air leak between the conditioned space and the attic above.
4) Do I need to order separate fixtures for 2700K and 3000K, or can I set the color temperature on site?
One part number covers all of it. The R4ESAR-W9CS is 5-CCT switchable at 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K, so an electrician picks the temperature at install. For a property manager standardizing a building, that means stocking a single SKU and matching whatever is already in the adjacent rooms instead of guessing the Kelvin before the order goes in.
5) What dimmer works with the WAC Lotos 4 inch adjustable downlight?
It dims on either ELV or TRIAC control, 100 percent down to 5 percent on both. TRIAC means a standard forward-phase wall dimmer will work, so a retrofit into an existing dimmed circuit generally doesn't need the control changed out.
6) Will the Lotos R4ESAR run on 277 volt commercial power?
Yes. The input is 120 to 277 VAC at 50/60Hz, so the same fixture goes on 120V residential circuits and 277V commercial branch circuits. That matters on a mixed job where you'd otherwise have to buy two different part numbers.
7) Is there a fire rated version of the WAC Lotos recessed light?
Yes, WAC makes a fire rated Lotos, ordered with the -FWT suffix. The R4ESAR-W9CS itself is the standard version. If the ceiling assembly you're penetrating is a rated assembly, specify the -FWT part instead of this one.
8) Should I use the adjustable Lotos or the fixed downlight version?
The adjustable version, which is what R4ESAR-W9CS is, has a gimbal ring that pivots 360 degrees on a hinge. Use it on sloped ceilings, for accent lighting, and for wall washing, where you need to aim the beam off vertical. If you only want general ambient light straight down over an open room, the plain downlight version of Lotos is the simpler choice and there is nothing to aim or re-aim later.
9) How bright is the 4 inch Lotos, and is 9 watts enough for a general lighting layout?
740 delivered lumens at 9 watts, with a center beam candlepower of 1000. CRI is 90, so colors read accurately, which is why it holds up in retail, hospitality and healthcare spaces where a low CRI source looks wrong on merchandise and finishes.
10) Do I have to buy a driver separately for the WAC Lotos R4ESAR-W9CS?
No, the driver ships with the kit. It is a remote driver rather than one packed inside a housing, so it sits above the ceiling near the fixture and needs to stay accessible per the install instructions.
11) I need more than one light in the same opening. Does WAC make a multi-light Lotos?
Yes, but at the 2 inch aperture, not 4 inch. WAC lists part numbers R2ESAR-2 and R2ESAR-3 for two-light and three-light configurations. The R4ESAR-W9CS is a single 4 inch square unit. Lotos is also made in round and square shapes with 2, 4 and 6 inch apertures if the 4 inch square doesn't suit the ceiling grid.
